01.01.2022 VALE LOUISE VANDERGRAAF On Saturday morning, while bright sunshine bathed Kingswood Oval, our friend Lou Vandergraaf passed away after a short but brave battle against cancer. Lou will be remembered for many things, first and foremost for her extraordinary positive outlook on life, her calmness in the most extreme situations, her dead-pan humour, her friendship, and her strength on the playing field. Lou came to Marton in 2012, when she joined a team of like-minded girls who... would become Marton’s most successful soccer team the Women’s Over 30A. Lou was an integral part of that team and played with such strength in defence, she was feared by all the opposition. With Lou, though, it was not just her great strength, co-ordination, and skill that she brought to the team. There was a cleverness to her play, an ability to read the game, and like many of the girls in the team, she found a way to win whatever it took. Lou would do her best to flay you and slay you on the field but be the first to shake your hand afterwards. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and was always full of encouragement, even when you made mistakes - of course she still roared with laughter at you Lou is survived by her husband, Mark, two stepsons, Mitch & Wade, and three sons, Carl, Cody & Coen. Coen is a member of Marton’s 13B team, and like his mum, plays with a fierce determination. Lou is deeply loved, and we are overwhelmed with grief at the loss of our wonderful friend and a Marton Legend. Go well, Lou. You were a tower of strength on the field and off it.
