24.01.2022 With the arrival of the Nisi Up-Close lens, thought I should have a tinker with some focus stacking. This'll be a handy little addition to my camera kit. 24.01.2022 News of the vandalism of That Wanaka Tree in New Zealand has me speechless. Why would someone do something like that? Wanaka was a favourite of my quick South Island trip (so much so we went back on our last day for lunch), and I’ll focus on the beauty and charm of the location. 23.01.2022 After a 10 hour drive to Sydney, a walk around Circular Quay was needed - I’ve never really been this close to the Opera House before and the textures on the sails I find so fascinating. As always, the best camera is the one you have on you, and that was my iPhone X on this wander - captured in Lightroom for a RAW image, and edited on the iPad - first time to be so mobile with editing. And yep, the big camera came out on another wander too.... Location: Sydney Opera House, Sydney, Australia Sydney, Australia Visit NSW Sydney Opera House Gear: Apple iPhone X

22.01.2022 So I completed my PADI Open Water Certification in Victoria in late Autumn. And 7mm neoprene with full hood and gloves. 22.01.2022 So how did I take all of these selfies? Wireless trigger to my DSLR from my phone (and a smidge of Photoshop to remove it from the shots after I set the countdown and placed it on the mat). 22.01.2022 Melbourneites - not sure if you noticed, but it kinda rained a little yesterday afternoon. OK, OK, not a little, a lot. 21.01.2022 Looking through some of my unprocessed images, and stumbled upon this 90 second long exposure from April 2019. 20.01.2022 One last post for 2018. Instead of looking back over the year, I want to look forward in to the next year. I want to still see the best in people - but not be used or taken advantage of in the process. I want friends to live up to that label - and spend my energy on meaningful two-way relationships (and let go of those holding me down). ... I hope to get a handle on management of my anxieties and depression - and I would love to have someone ask is everything OK when things aren’t OK. I want to be less invisible, be bolder, be included, be noticed, and be thought of - all the while being true to myself. I want to find my own happiness - happy times, happy places, happy experiences - and be able to share these with others too (and have my efforts and energies appreciated and reflected). I want to have learned from 2018, and bring it on in 2019. 16.01.2022 Long time, no post, hey? Yeah I’m here just between the day job, being crook, training in my fifth Les Mills program plus usual teaching schedule (and covers), I’ve just not had the time to get out. But coming home after covering a class today, someone was on top of the bookshelf having a little snooze and was just too cute, I couldn’t resist. This is Zack, one of my rescues, who’s now 4. He’s my shadow, following me around the house, and he must get his morning cuddles in ...before he finds a spot for his morning snooze, and then as soon as I’m on the couch in the evening, he’s on my lap falling asleep. He really loves his dad. He’s also a little monster, stalking/biting/pouncing/licking his older brother Toby (who just wants to sleep and chill, 5 years old going on 50), runs around the house for no reason (with some charming sound effects), and gets insanely demanding anywhere from 2:30 to 3:00pm for his dinner. Monster aside, he’s just so cute too! He loves his belly rubs, paws being played with, has fun with a little wrestle and nibbling fingers. Plus, licking the dad’s sweaty salty forehead after a gym session.

16.01.2022 I've had some questions about my bag choice recently - such as "how can you use a bag underwater?". Hence the note after the bag selection - the bag is *above* the water. But I did have a new bag on this trip, and one I've fallen in love with. I do love my Rotation backpack - and it's really big so can fit all of my gear. But when I'm only going for a short walk (i.e. some seascape locations, sunsets such as Fiji), it's a huge thing to have on your back. So I was on the look... out for something smaller - but still roomy. MindShift Gear (THINK TANK PHOTO) released their Exposure bags recently, and I'm using the larger 15 version which I have loved. It's waterproof, and can hold all of my gear - and, the best bit, it allows the MindShift Gear Filter Hive to be attached to the end, which I use for my 100x150mm filters on my land-based camera. And, well, besides that Fijian sunset, and a tall 6'4" guy squatting in the greenery, the bag looks rather nice there too, hey? These guys make some seriously top camera gear.

07.01.2022 Nearly an hour before sunrise, the clouds started to get their coloured highlights. I changed my camera from looking at the stars behind me, and turned to just watch that colour grow. 07.01.2022 With my camera repaired and returned to me (sadly a sensor fault, but yay for warranty), a new bag to try out (PS, it’s a comfy convenient keeper) and a new jacket to face the winter chill, it was time to head to the beach. Yes, when it is 5 degrees outside, why not? With some swift moving clouds, there was a brief window where the pastels shone through. 04.01.2022 Minutes is all it takes. This is 3 minutes later than the image I posted yesterday. Side note - the 11 minutes following this got more and more spectacularly insane with colour, so yep, there's still more to come. But look at how the colour can develop from a hint of purple to totally igniting the sky. 03.01.2022 Tumbling backwards off the dive boat in to the water is an experience. Then starting your descent and just looking out at such an immense space as you slowly sink. It’s funny - above the surface, we’re used to space and think nothing of it. But there’s something really striking and mysterious about that endless space underwater. 02.01.2022 The colours on this coaster are absolutely stunning - especially against Queensland’s stunning azure skies. I am so fascinated with the shapes and patterns made by the tracks and supports.
