23.01.2022 An update: we will now be closed for rehearsals and concerts until further notice, in compliance with current federal and state regulations. Membership status will be held as now when we resume. Stay safe & well, & stay in touch on-line, and play lots of music at home! http://marukicommunityorchestra.org.au//Latest%20COVID19%2

22.01.2022 Playing brass instruments, particularly with a cover or mute, may be safer than just breathing near each other... It'd be good to see more research comparing just breathing, speaking softly & loudly, singing softly & loudly, playing various woodwind instruments and playing brass instruments, bringing it all together. This is a good start though. https://www.bbe.org.uk//brass-bands-england-releases-labor

10.01.2022 John Gould, our conductor is returning to live in Canberra! If anyone is available to help him unload the truck tomorrow afternoon, 4pm Sunday 30/8/2020, in Stromlo, please contact him!

03.01.2022 An interesting paper re possible risk in playing wind instruments (together or in a common space). https://slippedisc.com//a-full-assessment-of-the-covid-r/

01.01.2022 Hi all, hopefully everyone was reached by Ross' email... We'll restart rehearsals tomorrow, on the 5th of September but are limited to 25 people in the room at any time, so the Strings will practise from 2pm to 3:20 and the Winds & Brass from 3:40 to 5pm. The strings will open, and the Winds will close the hall and the chairs will need to be sanitized during the brake.... Please bring the music we started to prepare for the May concert earlier this year: Beethoven's Egmont Overture, Schumann's Symphony 4, Sibelius Violin Concerto Op. 47, and Alan Hinde's Symphonic Poem - In search of the Lost Land. We all must have our own copies of the music (or a tablet + the means to connect to the website and download from there), as sharing music stands will not be feasible unless with someone from the same household.
