24.01.2022 A message from Aunty Lorraine Peeters, Wailwan/Gamilaroi Elder and Stolen Generations survivor who generously shared her story as a part of the Archie Roach Sto...len Generations Education Resources. "For Aboriginal children out there that are still struggling. I want you to be proud and never forget who you are, where you come from and stay strong in spirit. This is also your story, but don't carry our pain, but keep our stories alive, don't let them forget. Find your purpose and follow that like Archie and I have done. And that is helping others and making them happy." #elders #message #stolengenerations #healing #story #pride #firstnations #aboriginal

14.01.2022 A staggering 81% of Indigenous children are on long-term guardianship orders, which means they are in state care to the age of 18 and are thus at serious risk of permanent separation from their families, cultures and communities. In New South Wales, the use of permanent care orders is twice the national average. The number of Aboriginal children being adopted has also risen, Family Matters said. Ninety-five per cent of adoptions have been to non-Indigenous carers, and the...y all occurred in NSW and Victoria. In NSW adoption without parental consent was legalised in 2018, despite widespread community opposition.

07.01.2022 Yesterday was one of the best days - the many people who gathered together to honour the lives of the Moore River and Mogumber Mission Survivors and their famil...ies past and present, to tell their stories, meet the Yorgum Link-Up mob, see the wonderful Virtual Reality reproduction of Mogumber in 1965 before more than 80% of the buildings there were demolished by neglect, discuss issues with volunteering social workers from the WA Social Workers Alliance, video record their stories, scan and save their precious photographs and enjoy the wonderful yonga stews and soups, not to forget the dampers and trifles catered by Dot Bagshaw. Thanks to all involved in the strategic issues and planning events held during the afternoon. This goes into and makes what we say and do with other organisations and Government. 01.01.2022 On the 16th of August 1975, an iconic moment in history was captured when that Jarnkarni Marluka (big important man), the Hon. Gough Whitlam, poured a handful o...f sand to Vincent Lingiari AM. The signifies the birth of Aboriginal Land Rights, 16 August 1975. Each year, the Freedom Day Festival celebrates the Wave Hill Walk-off led by Vincent nine years earlier, August 23 1966, which eventually led to this moment where Gurindji Traditiional Lands were handed back by the Australian Government. Today we pay our respects to these two Marluka, and as old Vincent said now we can all be mates. http://www.freedomday.com.au https://www.nma.gov.au/defining-moments//wave-hill-walk-off
