25.01.2022 Another aviation photo to share from Jan Thomas’s family collection. It is of a little house at Swimming Creek, Nambucca Heads during the late 1930’s and early 40’s where Mr Moody used to ‘park’ his aeroplane. Jan told us that the house was owned by Mr Maloney, the tailor from Macksville, a Mr Beale and the brother of Ken Gossip. The house was called Bemago, Be for Beale, ma for Maloney and go for Gossip. The bottom end of Swimming Creek Road was split up and named Bemago Street.

24.01.2022 Celebrating 100 years of Aviation in Australia. Jan Thomas kindly let us share a photo from her family collection of a Mr Moody who used to fly up and down the coast and land at various locations to take lucky people on joy flights. The photo was taken at swimming creek, Nambucca Heads in 1935. The young lass standing next to the pilot is Loas Haydec, a relative of Jan’s. What a magnificent sight it would of been for locals to see a plane landing on the beach. Do you have stories to tell of your loved ones who seen this in the 30’s and 40’s? #aviationphotography #museums. #australianaviation.
23.01.2022 The new Executive Committee for the next twelve months at Mary Boulton Pioneer Cottage and Museum is: President-Leanne Welsh Vice-President-Geoff Minett Treasurer-Pat Kerr Secretary-David Boulton ... Congratulations to the new committee amd we look forward to another wonderful year at MBPC. A sincere thank you to last years committee for all the hard work and enthusiasm you put into it. Without the volunteers we have at the museum we would not be able to perform all the duties that we do, you are extremely valued.
23.01.2022 Flashback Friday to 1934 An advertisement in the Nambucca and Bellinger News for Hearne’s Bronchitis Cure. It was the best thing to treat Bronchitis and was found in pharmacies right up to the early 1990’s as they discontinued it due to the misuse of the camphorated oil. Do you remember it?

19.01.2022 The dairy is just one building to visit at the museum. The cream shed was donated by Mr Fred Bond and was built by Mr George Schiable in 1936. The Bonds began dairying in 1920 and the family farm was one of the first to change over to supplying milk to Nestles which cut out the job of separating the cream from the milk. Open Saturday and Wednesday 1-4pm

17.01.2022 Always something special to find at the museum.
17.01.2022 Thanks to all that attended the last Golden Oldies for 2020. A special thank you to everyone that has supported our monthly event even though it’s only been three events this year. We talked about weddings of the valley coinciding with the exhibition at the museum, it was great to have three men at our gathering also.
16.01.2022 Love the humour that was put into some of the old advertisements. This particular one is of Morrison’s Garage in Macksville found in the Guardian Newspaper. Note the low digit phone number. The museum holds most of the old newspapers from the early 1900’s. They are wonderful to search family details and stories from our bygone days. If you would like to visit the museum to search through the newspapers please call in on Wednesday and Saturday from 1-4pm to view them. Small fee applies.
16.01.2022 Does anyone recognise this handsome groom and gorgeous bride? They could be your great aunt and uncle. It is yet another of the many unknown people from the wedding files at Macksville Studios. Exhibiting the wedding collection until 1st February 2021 at the museum. Call in to see this plus much more Wednesday and Saturday 1-4pm.
16.01.2022 Don’t forget Golden Oldies tomorrow morning at 10am Social distancing rules apply.
16.01.2022 With all the flashbacks in the media at the moment with the 2000 Olympic Games we thought it would be great to flashback to the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. The clippings are from The Nambucca District News on Tuesday November 20 & 23 1956 and tells us of the Olympic torch relay coming from Bellingen Shire boundary at 4am with first runner for Nambucca Shire, Allan Cox, Macksville High School sports master followed by a team of well known locals. The torch paused for eighteen minutes at 5.46am at Macksville for a short welcome reception speech lead by shire president Cr. C Johnson. A very large crowd turned up for this memorable occasion and it was said that many travelled up to forty miles and wore night attire to see the torch pass through Macksville. Were you one of them?

15.01.2022 At the museum yesterday, museum advisor Joan Kelly demonstrated to us how to clean the metals. It will be a slow progress but the end result will be rewarding. The two scufflers and cross cut saws that we cleaned up certainly showed an improvement. Many thanks to Joan for guiding our team along the way.
14.01.2022 Flashback Friday to July 2003. A group of willing volunteers replaced the roof shingles with shakes (sawn shingles) on the cottage roof at the museum. Left to right- Karl Hogg, Geoff Minett, Mo MacDonald, Neville Welsh, Greg Wood, John Ennis.
13.01.2022 Do you remember the day that the Macksville town clock was put up? Found the paper clipping from September 1956.
13.01.2022 What a glamorous day for visiting the museum. Open now until 4pm Small entry fee applies along with COVID regulations.
12.01.2022 Flashback Friday to 1940, advertised in the Bellinger and Nambucca News. What a wonderful invention! Not to mention being fully manufactured in Australia. These days you have to pay for an extended warranty, this what came with five years. Sixty five pounds would of been a lot of money in those days especially during the war years. Did your grandparents have one of these?
12.01.2022 We would like to show all our followers the reason why the museum volunteers decided to make the decision to have the magnificent mural put in place. There is a very modern garden shed behind the mural that just did not look fitting with the rest of the rustic buildings. We would like to thank Ken, Reuben and Paul for their valuable time and efforts in putting up the false screen to cover the garden shed and of course the very talented Ian Moule for his incredible artwork of the mural which was of a photo Paul brought to the committee and the horse was called Fat Cat.
12.01.2022 Thank you to the lovely ladies who attended our October Golden Oldies this morning. A cloud burst made us move to the cottage verandah which was lovely and relaxing. We spoke about all sorts of things including the Crombie studios in Macksville and looking at photos of Lesley and Jan as little girls, how cute were they. Looking forward to seeing everyone plus more at our last meeting for November on the last Thursday. Until then, take care.
11.01.2022 Do you recognise these faces? Just another of the many unknown photographs from the Crombie Studios of Macksville. From now until February 2021 the museum showcases its wedding collection. Call in and visit, you may be able to identify some faces in the many photographs. Open Wednesday and Saturday 1-4pm
11.01.2022 One of many R E Crombie studio wedding photos that are unknown. The museum is featuring weddings from the collection for three months, if you know who this lovely couple were or would like to look at more, please visit the museum Wednesday and Saturday from 1-4pm
11.01.2022 Flashback to 1997. Who remembers Mary Boulton driving around in her trusty Holden ute? Tell us your memories, we would love to read them. It’s a 1966 vintage.
11.01.2022 This beautiful wedding couple must belong to someone in the Nambucca Valley. Are they relatives of yours? Showcasing weddings at the museum through until February 2021. Come along to visit on Wednesday and Saturday from 1-4pm to view the beautiful gowns and photographs from the museum collection.
10.01.2022 A fantastic Christmas lunch at Eungai Creek Buffalo Farm & Cafe today. Thank you to all members and volunteers who were able to attend. It was a wonderful way to wrap up the year, great venue and valued people. For those of you who have not been to the cafe before, you must put it on your list. Something to satisfy all taste buds.
10.01.2022 A huge thank you to Richie, Paul and Ken for their time and effort this morning putting up old palings to fill the gaps in the barn to stop some of the dust and bad weather getting in. The building was an old barn from Saul’s farm at Bellimbopinni near Kempsey donated in 2001. All of the western wall, frame and flooring is from Saul’s farm. The wall cladding was donated by Brian Wilkes and Don Randall with some timber’s and roofing being new. The barn was reconstructed by the late John Ennis and volunteers.
08.01.2022 Today we post another from our wedding collection. It is from the Crombie studio collection and the beautiful couple are also unknown. Maybe this is your great grandparents or maybe your great aunt or uncle. Please tell us. Wedding gowns, photographs and stories displayed from the museum collection at Mary Boulton Pioneer Cottage for three months.
08.01.2022 Flashback Friday takes us back to November 1940 to an advertisement for Reid and Fotheringham store of Macksville in the Nambucca News. Christmas gifts have certainly changed for children over the eighty years. The price for the dinkie ranged from twelve shillings and nine pence up to twenty seven shillings. That would be an average in today’s currency of up to about $4. It would of been a lot of money to part with in those days of hardship. What do you remember your parents or grandparents buying from Reid and Fotheringham store in Macksville?
08.01.2022 Mary Boulton Pioneer Cottage & Museum will be featuring a wedding display from the museum collection for three months. Items date from a circa. 1900 wedding skirt through to a 1965 wedding gown and bridesmaid dress that belonged to a local resident. There are a lot of Crombie Studio photographs that are not identified, so please visit the display on Wednesday or Saturday from 1-4pm for a small fee and you never know, you might just recognise someone in the photos.
07.01.2022 Another great day to visit the museum in the school holidays. Come along today from 1-4pm to see what your grandparents used in everyday life during the golden years.
06.01.2022 What a wonderful Golden Oldies cuppa and chat was shared by all this morning. It is the first one we have had since lockdown back in March. Thank you to our regular visitors and our special surprise guests. We spoke about the first plane to arrive in Macksville 100 years ago and Jan spoke of the plane that visited the beach in Nambucca back in 1935. We also spoke about the Gumma airstrip opening in 1960. The Spinners and Weavers ladies were there to enjoy the morning and demonstrate their amazing work with Robbie explaining to us how it’s all done.
04.01.2022 Thank you and well done Mr. Ian Moule for your amazing artwork that you recently completed at Mary Boulton Pioneer Cottage & Museum. What a wonderful addition to the museum, it will be a terrific backdrop for tours, groups and weddings.
