20.01.2022 Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, bringing an end to the Christmas season. It occurred in the Jordan River and was conducted by... Jesus’ cousin, John the Baptist. During the baptism, the River was sanctified as Jesus descended into the water and the entire trinity intervened as God appeared in three persons. Jesus did not need the baptism of John as he was without sin, but He placed Himself among us; the unclean and the sinners. Jesus freely humbled Himself to be baptised at the hands of John. By His baptism in the Jordan, He conferred upon the water the power of the true Baptism which would remove all the sins of the world. See more

14.01.2022 *** Parish Name Change Survey *** Late last year Mary of the Southern Cross Parish Council proposed changing the Parish name here at Highfields. The purpose of this was twofold: 1. The first reason was to RECOGNISE and ALIGN ourselves to Australia's FIRST SAINT. When we first became Mary of the Southern Cross Parish in 2007, Mary Mackillop had not yet been canonised. This happened in 2010. Mary of the Southern Cross refers to the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus. This n...ame was originally chosen to align with the Diocesan Patron. 2. The second reason is to more closely ALIGN ourselves to OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY, Mary Mackillop Catholic College. It would be of value to be aligned and have a common identity to our school. Linking our parish to our parish school community would bring connection and identity to our Highfield's community. One of our aims is to build stronger connections with our school community. Thank you for participating in this survey. Any changes made will depend on approval by Bishop Robert McGuckin and the Josephite Sisters. Clink on the Microsoft Forms button below to complete the survey.

13.01.2022 EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE & FEEL SAFE Within our Church our policy approach is clear: ...Catholic Social Teachings emphasise that not only children but also the poor, vulnerable and every human being who is created in God’s image and likeness is valuable and worthy of respect...this can be achieved through the respectful relationships and a commitment to safety embracing appropriate boundaries, behaviours and practices...as well adherence to legislation. ... If you believe abuse of harm has occurred to someone you know or it could occur YOU CAN MAKE CONTACT AND TALK TO A SAFEGUARDING REPRESENTATIVE. Contact details can be found in the Parish Family and Friends Group here: https://www.facebook.com//261336/permalink/414083782917398

12.01.2022 This weekend, the Catholic Church in Australia marks Child Protection Sunday, on which we pray for those who have been abused, their families and supporters. We recognise and apologise for the harm done by priests, religious and lay people in Church settings. The Church takes a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse. We recommit to practices that support survivors and make the Catholic Church and its ministries the safest possible place for children and people at risk.... "When a Canaanite woman kept bothering Jesus and his group they looked at her and saw an outsider. By her annoying persistence she virtually forced Jesus to look again and he saw something different she was no longer a non-person, but someone who challenged him. This unnamed woman, out of her anguish for her daughter, was able to nudge Jesus into reconsidering the nature of his mission, and broadening his vision. Matthew's story is a conversion story with a twist because it is Jesus who experiences a transformation and the catalyst for this change is an anonymous woman."
