Current research shows that acupuncture can be used to improve conditions such as those outline below: Musculoskeletal pain, back pain, neck pain Gynecological conditions Fertility and IVF support Colds and Flu Anxiety and Depression Stress and Mental Health Headaches and Migraine Gastrointestinal issues, nausea and vomiting Weight loss What happens in an Acupuncture session? Your medical professional will first ask a series of questions to determine your health history and underlying conditions before working with you to create a treatment plan which may include the use of several forms of therapeutic methods including: Acupuncture (insertion of thin needles to improve body systems) Cupping (improving blood flow in muscles and removing stagnation) Moxibustion (herbal smoke and heat therapy) Herbal medicine/Dietary therapy (prescription of herbal pills or foods to be eaten) Movement exercises (increasing range of motion, maintaining flexibility) Chinese Remedial Massage (promotion of lymphatic drainage and blood flow) How long does a treatment session last? Acupuncture sessions typically last between 40-60 minutes depending on the condition being treated. The initial treatment, or the first time you come for acupuncture, will last around 90 minutes. This is to enable enough time for a thorough examination of your health history and current situation as well as provide feedback and explanations of any herbal or dietary recommendations that may be prescribed. Does it hurt? Who can perform Acupuncture? In order to become a Chinese Medicine practitioner, a four year bachelor degree is the minimum qualification required by Australian law. In addition, registration with the Australian Health Professional Registration Authority (AHPRA) is also mandatory along with professional oversight by the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA). As such you can rest assured that only the best and highly trained professionals are able to perform techniques used in Acupuncture. Is Acupuncture covered by my Health Insurance?
