24.01.2022 2pm today will mark 85 years since the Maheno gently bumbed onto Fraser Island in her current position to become one of the regions premier tourist attractions.... The fact that the ship landed where it did was a feat of extraordinary good luck. Had she come in further north she would have almost certainly been destroyed on Breaksea Spit, or a bit to the south and the treacherous Wide Bay Bar could have easily smashed the hull to pieces and spread it the length of Rainbow beach . Had the ship not hit a sand bar and turned side on to the swell, she probably wouldn't have grounded at all , or at the very least made land fall much further south....both would have seen her vanish to the scrappers torches . I would normally be hosting one of my 5 year periodical exhibits today, but as I sit disappointed at home, my thoughts quickly turn to how close Maheno came to being lost to history, and then I'm grateful the old girl is still there, Even if I''m not.......... 23.01.2022 Missing our friends Justine & Glen onboard Shima. Happy travels as they sail around the north, living the dream.
17.01.2022 We have had an urgent message from a yacht owner who’s vessel is located in Kingfisher Bay. He is stranded in the US during the current crisis and is asking for someone to relocate his vessel to safer anchorage. Please contact us for details if you can help. Thank you!

13.01.2022 ** Maryborough QLD 4650 ** Sometime between our AGM (23 February 2020) and Sunday 08 March 2020 someone has accessed the Motor Complex grounds on the Maryboroug...h Cooloola Coast Road and gained entry into our shed. I am devastated to share that every last item in the shed of any value has been stolen with the exception of a bundle of star pickets and a single garden rake. Items including a set of UHF radios, a brand new $2000 defibrillator, draws full of tools, jumper leads, jacks, a Honda whipper snipper, chainsaw, accessories and even PPE etc have been taken. I'm at a loss for words. Who does this to a sporting club?
