15.01.2022 People often ask us where is the farm which Mary Grant Bruce wrote about as Billabong Station. There is no single property. Rather, Billabong is an amalgam of places that were, and had been, lived at, owned or managed by her family since they first came to Australia in 1836, up until 1905, when A Little Bush Maid was published as a serial in The Leader newspaper. Those properties included The Snowy River Run, Burnima and Tombong, all in New South Wales; and Tubbut, Fernhil...l, Loy Yang, Traralgon and the mighty Heyfield, which are all in Victoria. But, in a sense, Billabong could have been anywhere in Australia's grazing lands.
