25.01.2022 Alongside many other churches around the world, St Mary's Cathedral was lit in red last night to mark Red Wednesday following a Mass celebrated by Dean Fr Don R...ichardson. This annual initiative of the charity, Aid to the Church In Need (ACN) on 25 November, helps raise awareness about the persecution of Christians around the world. ACN has this year focused its attention on the plight of Christians who are kidnapped or unjustly imprisoned because of their faith. As our cathedral is bathed in the blood of martyrs, we stand with the oppressed, acknowledging that we can often take freedom to practice our faith in safety too much for granted in Australia- a freedom denied to many of our fellow Christians around the world.

25.01.2022 Friends, I would like to share with you my 2021 Easter message. There is a great message of hope in where we've come over the past 12 months when we went into lockdown to now embarking upon a Year of Recovery after the Year of COVID. God bless you all, Happy Easter!

24.01.2022 Happy feast day of Our Lady Undoer of Knots! (Please find the free novena download below) We all have knots, difficulties and problems in life that we need a...ssistance with. Some may even seem insurmountable and we don't know where to turn to next. Friends, let us place them in the hands of our dear Mother. Let us trust that she can bring a solution to the problems of our life. She is our Mother and wants us to have peace in our hearts, in our families, and in our relationship with God and others. Turn to her with confidence! https://tinyurl.com/yy6fypk4 See more

18.01.2022 In response to the rapidly changing situation with the COVID-19 virus, the Story Factory team worked with Year 5 I abd Year 6I to create a different way for the students to express themselves through creative writing. Our students work is now published on the Story Factor site. https://www.storyfactory.org.au/stories/were-writing-to-say/

18.01.2022 In our epistle today, St Paul sings to us what was possibly the first Christian hymn, about Jesus emptying Himself to assume our human condition and then subjec...ting Himself to the Father in obedience even unto death, death on a cross. Our Gospels and the chronicles of our Church record many heroic stories of people who left everything to follow God’s will for them. This is true of St Paul, Mary and the early disciples. Such trusting and amenable souls as these challenge us to see that genuine freedom is not self-seeking licence, genuine authority is not self-assertive power. Rather, freedom is found in serving others and authority in compromising our wills for the common good. Mass attendance is still limited to 100 people under COVID-19 restrictions. I invite you to join me for a livestreamed Mass at 1030am from St Mary's Cathedral here: https://bit.ly/305iHbp

10.01.2022 On the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord today, we join Christ in celebrating who He is and what He will do, delighted by hearing the Father’s words about Him an...d inspired by seeing the Spirit anointing Him. But we join Him, knowing where the path leads, to Calvary. We join Him in His journey of joys and hardships, of healing and preaching, of doing battle with the forces of darkness, sin, ignorance and hate. We join Him as He gives Himself over in a self-surrender that will make Baptism, make all the sacraments, our means of salvation. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance at all Masses today is limited to 100 people. If you're unable to attend Mass in person, you can watch the 10:30am Mass livestreamed from St Mary's Cathedral‘s You Tube channel. My ongoing prayers are with you all.

09.01.2022 While social media provides an opportunity for kids to stay connected with friends, it is inevitable that Friendship Fires ignite from online interactions. Misu...nderstandings, hurt feelings, exclusion...the regular schoolground friendship dramas exist in the virtual world as well. What we know to be true about tweens & teens is this: They will not report Friendship Fires or Mean-on-Purpose behavior if they feel the adult will make the situation worse. In the case of their online world, kids often share with us that they don't divulge their conflicts with parents because: (a) They're worried their parents will make it worse (e.g. tell their teacher & get the school invovled, call the other kid's parents, text or message the kid back, etc.) (b) They're worried their parents will take their device away or ban them from the app (e.g. make them delete TikTok if that's where the incident happened, not allow them on their phones, make them block the friend, etc.) For these two main reasons, kids sometimes suffer silently - sitting with really heavy feelings and nobody to lean on. So, how can we build that trust with our children so that they come to us in these moments? How can we teach our children to share their hard, uncomfortable experiences that happen online when they know they will 'pay the price' for doing the right thing? We'd love to hear your thoughts on this... What works for you & your child?

08.01.2022 This term we have had a focus on a small group reading program in Years 1,2,3. Thank you teachers our students are flying high with their reading skills.

08.01.2022 Friends, in difficult times, as we’re facing at the moment during the COVID-19 pandemic, Catholics find great comfort in the Rosary, a sweet chain which unites ...us to God, a bond of love which unites us to the angels. Throughout the month of October, the official pilgrimage statue of our nation's patroness, Our Lady Help of Christians, will be travelling to numerous parishes across the Archdiocese. I invite you and your family to spend some time together, reciting the Rosary as a spiritual sword to fight the pandemic. You'll find the full itinerary for parish visits of the pilgrimage statue here: https://bit.ly/2EKZXXn A range of prayer resources are also available on the Archdiocesan website: https://bit.ly/2HJEcs3 Our Lady, Help of Christians, pray for us!

08.01.2022 Friends, I would like to share with you my homily from yesterday’s Solemn Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral. I reflect upon the great parable of the workers in the vi...neyard and the struggle to reconcile God’s justice and ours. We are reminded that God’s ways are not our ways and the incredible gift He offers us all, in spite of our failings, the chance to be now and always ‘with Christ’. 08.01.2022 HOW TO BE A GOOD FRIEND AND ASK R U OK? We're never too young to look out for one another and lend support. In this video, Alec shows you how to be a good friend and ask "Are you OK." For teachers, parents and carers: While children can't be expected to fix someone’s problems, they can be encouraged to listen to what their friend is saying, show they care and tell a teacher, school counsellor or trusted adult if they are worried about their friend. This video shows them how ...to do that. https://drive.google.com//1uYUJQvxzgxdjBbwbjITqHtwyxm/view

08.01.2022 Today marks the feast of St Pio of Pietrelcina, commonly known as Padre Pio. A most humble and unassuming priest, he draws our attention to the suffering of Chr...ist in a highly visible and dramatic way. With the marks of Christ’s passion revealed in his own flesh, he reminds us that Christ rose from the tomb with his wounds; those wounds no longer testimony to death and decay, but now a triumphant sign of the terrible price paid for our ransom. St Padre Pio, pray for us!

07.01.2022 Lots of smiles at our Easter hat parade

07.01.2022 Today we honour, "the Little Flower", St Therese of Lisieux, on her feast day. St Therese reminds us that you don’t have to be spectacular to be a saint through... her call to serve God in simple ways which could involve confronting our personal vices or putting up with irritations or being misunderstood and offering these as flowers to God. Her faith journey was no doubt inspired by her parents, Saints Louis and Zelie Martin, who were also canonised in 2015. May St Therese continue to inspire us through her Little way in our daily lives. St Therese of Lisieux, pray for us!
