Parents Program On 16 Oct 2020, the Parent’s training program concluded two weeks training for 72 parents at Simpangtiga Central Basic School in Daisua, Same/Manufahi. The training aims were to equip parents with skills for teaching their kids at home. The conclusion of training was attended by Director Education of Manufahi, Chief of Formation of Infordepe Polo Manufahi, Director of EBC Simpangtiga Daisua, and local leaders. The Director of Education called on parents to teach their children at home after having gained knowledge and skills from the parent’s training program of Mary MacKillop Today. He appreciated the training being provided by MMT to support kids and at the same reiterated the importance of parent’s roles to teach their kids at home despite the difficulty parents might experience in guiding and teaching children at home. He encouraged them as parents to never give up on their kids.

English Livelihood Program Training for Women Empowerment and Domestic Violence The Livelihood program team held a five days training program from 18-22 Jan 2021 in Railako Craic, Railako/Ermera for 15 women who hold senior positions in the structure of BEHAFU Cooperative. The topic of the training was Women Empowerment and Domestic Violence, and the training was facilitated by local NGO of Movimentu Feto Foin Sa’e (MOFFE). The aim of the training is to increase the women’s knowledge about domestic violence, understand the process of reporting domestic violence and helping families and neighbours to eliminate domestic violence. As these women attended the training from the senior position of the Cooperative. They were also provided with leadership training on how to resolve problems in the Cooperative, and in their families. This training included referring any cases to municipality level if domestic violence occurred within the members of Cooperative of community..

On 15 Oct 2020, Mary MacKillop Today was entrusted by Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste to organize a world day of hand washing in Fahinehan, Fatuberliu and Manufahi municipality. The celebration of the hand washing day was held in the central basic school of Fahinehan. Participants included a representative of Administrator of Manufahi, Director General of Pre-School and Basic School Ministry of Education, national Director of Basic School, Director of Education of Manufahi munipality, representative of director Ministry of Health of Municipality, Manufahi police commander, local authorities, community and schools teachers and students. There were about 700 participating in the event. In his comments, Director General of Ministry of Education reiterated the importance of hand washing to ensure people live in a healthy lifestyle for themselves and for other people. However, he realized that some schools still encountered barriers in water provision making it difficult for them to practice washing hands. MoE will work with other partners to find solution for water availability for schools for washing hands. Apart from this, the Director General thanked Mary MacKillop Today’s kindness for facilitating the campaign for the international day of hand washing in Fahinehan of Manufahi municipality to raise students and community awareness on the importance of a healthy life.
