21.01.2022 NEW YOUNG ADULT FICTION | For fans of dark and twisted YA fiction, here are two book our staff are recommending right now. The mere premise of 'None Shall Sleep' by Ellie Marney is genius. Two teenagers help the FBI's behavioural science unit hunt young serial killers. Happily, ‘None Shall Sleep’ more than delivers the promised thrills and chills. Like 'Silence of the Lambs' (which the novel gleefully riffs on) brilliant characters makes the gruesome (be warned!) moments o...f reckoning even more terrifying. A horrifyingly fun read. Learn more: https://shop.marymartinbooks.com.au/p/none-shall-sleep-885f 'House of Hollow' by Krystal Sutherland is a sumptuous and mysterious book that reads like the darkest kind of fairytale. When the Hollow sisters were children, they disappeared without a trace, only to be returned seemingly unharmed one month later. Since then, strange things seem to happen around them. When Grey, Iris Hollow's glamorous eldest sister, goes missing again, Iris must find her, even if it means following her on a dark and dangerous path. 01.01.2022 BOOKS WE LOVE | 'The Living Sea of Waking Dreams' by Richard Flanagan Jaye has just finished Richard Flanagan's latest, very poetic new novel 'The Living Sea of Waking Dreams.' "How to describe the indescribable? The Living Sea of Waking Dreams is so of the moment, it is startling. It's about living and grieving, death and acceptance, our burning landscape and our vanishing selves. This book's concerns are as micro as a single family unit and as macro as all of humanity.... I had to put it down several times to take a long walk and reflect on the emotions it brought up. Raw, vulnerable and beautiful, an Australian master at work."
