13.01.2022 Thankfully social distancing is nothing new to our volunteers and organisers... due to busy lives we often coordinate via phone and email already. So we would like to take this time to emphasise just how much actually goes on behind the scenes to pull this festival off each year and thank some of the people involved. Dawn Johanson of Mary Valley Lions is there every year on the front gate and helps bring in volunteers. ... Glenda Pickersgill has been with us from the start organising and coordinating and keeping us all on track, sending out emails and meeting minutes to ensure we are all well informed. Lyndall Ensbey -is our wonderful treasurer and takes care of our bills and makes sure everyone gets paid (just not the organisers as we are volunteers) Along with many others these great volunteers will continue planning and working together (from a safe social distance) to bring another great festival to the community.

11.01.2022 **ANNOUNCEMENT** Mary River Festival decides on a cooler change... Across the length and breadth of the nation, events are being cancelled or deferred, or diminished or taken online. But the change in store for the popular Mary River Festival has absolutely nothing to do with COVID-19 restrictions. ... For the last ten years, the Festival has been held on the second Saturday in November, as close as possible to the anniversary of the then Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett's memorable announcement, "It is my intention to say NO to the Traveston Crossing Dam". And last year's Festival, a decade of reflection, was a very special one, with Peter Garrett making a very popular return to Kandanga, Queensland. A current review of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation legislation (which stopped the dam) has highlighted the Traveston decision was one of but a few (less than one per cent) where legislation actually stopped a proposal. Anyone who has attended a Mary River Festival will attest to the fact that November in Kandanga can be very, very hot, not to mention being subject to thunderstorms (memorable a few years back) and even bushfires (as in surrounding areas last year) In an organiser's meeting earlier this year, before COVID-19 was even a word let alone a dominator of the news, that spirit of reflection continued with a decision being made to move the Festival to a cooler time of the year, July, and to begin this in 2021. Festival Co-ordinator Glenda Pickersgill says she's excited about the change, not only for the comfort of those taking part, but also for the hard working volunteers who toil to put up and take down the Festival. "It's a celebration the community plainly wants to see continue," she says, "but we're just looking to make it more comfortable all round." "And", she adds, "we're always looking for volunteers to help." If you would like to join the organising committee or assist in volunteering for the Mary River Festival you join and share your interest here Mary River Festival Volunteers and Coordinators. We will be needing volunteers very soon to assist with one of our most popular fundraisers... Bunnings Sausage Sizzle
