21.01.2022 A Day in the Life of a Marysville Lady Golfer! November 21st was the last ladies event of the season It was at Hidden Valley - always is, for some reason. Our entries were in, 6 of us were going... as we would rather play golf than do the mowing. We listened to the forecast to hear what theyd say about the weather expected the very next day. There could be extreme heat, fires and dangerous gales and even some thunderstorms and large hail. So Gail and Heather thought at home they would stay to defend their properties from the predicted affray. Beverley, Jenny, Jillian and Lesley decided to go and confront the conditions and go with the flow. We knew we would be driving in carts as would all the other old tarts. We registered our names and got our instructions then headed outside and made our introductions. The wind swirled around us at the start of the day and we soon regretted our decision to play. But we soldiered on as they say in the ad. and we all agreed that golfers are mad. Hats blew away and were chased by some and we all laughed at Jenni Vennell trying to run. The balls blew off when placed on the tees and Jillian was blown over and fell on her knees. On one hole Bevs brolly took flight into a pond and Helen Dennett was quick to respond. She bravely lent forward and reached over the reeds and retrieved the brolly - Bev was so pleased. On two holes we had to hit across water but you could go to the drop zone if you thought you oughta. The balls were hit with some brute force but the gale force wind blew them all off course. Woodsy spent the day driving Dale around and looking for balls that went out of bounds. She carried her camera with its bloody long lens and took photos from behind trees and around the bends. We finished the day covered in dust and to get back into the clubhouse was a must. With faces red and disheveled hair when we looked in the mirror we got quite a scare. We sat at the tables and ate our lunch and by then we were a cleaner and happier bunch. We watched the winners receive their prizes and with the scores quite low there were some surprises. The news that we most wanted to hear was who would be named The Player of the Year? Sorting out the points was really quite tricky then we all cheered and clapped the winner - Ricky. We headed home through hail and thunder and trees shook wildly as we drove slowly under. Two had fallen across the road and so we waited a while until some strong young blokes put the logs in a pile. Wed left home at 6.30 that morning and we spent most of the journey talking and yawning. We got home at about 5 oclock Id say after a long, challenging and memorable day. Lesley Rundle
