25.01.2022 We’ve all heard tall tales on what we should eat or avoid if we want to keep our teeth strong - But what are the myths are which are actually useful tips that we should integrate into our oral hygiene routine MYTHS 1. The harder you brush your teeth, the cleaner they will be... - This is a common misconception that actually does more harm than good. The harder you brush your teeth, the faster your enamel and tooth structures wear down, this can lead to sensitivity, discoloration and even gum recession ! 2. Brushing your teeth after every meal - If you’ve had a particularly strong tasting meal filled with garlic or onions etc, sure ! But it is recommended to wait at least 30 minutes after eating to brush your teeth to avoid damaging your tooth enamel 3. You should rinse your mouth out after brushing your teeth - It's actually recommended to spit out your excess toothpaste and avoid rinsing! This is to optimise your exposure to fluoride and maintain its preventative effects 4. Drinking juice instead of fizzy drinks is better for your oral health - Again, no this is because many fruit juices often contain the same amount, if not more sugar than some softdrinks which can cause tooth decay! Instead, opt for limiting sugary drinks in general to prevent the build up of harmful decay! Here are some hard facts: Regular dental checkups are one of the best ways to maintain oral health and prevent harmful effects Drinking water is important to maintain a clean mouth as well as expose yourself to more fluoride Brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day is one of the best ways to maintain your own oral hygiene Find out more myths here: 1. https://www.ada.org.au//World-Oral-Health-Day-survey-expos 2. https://theconversation.com/four-myths-about-water-fluorida call us today on (02) 9098 6990 or book online http://bit.ly/mascotdentalclinic #mascotdentalclinic #dentalmyths #oralhealthmyths #oralhealthfacts #promotingoralhealth #preventingtoothdecay

23.01.2022 Let’s Talk: Gum Disease Maintaining your oral health through adulthood is important to prevent dental problems that may occur as we get older. One particular problem we need to be aware of as we age is developing Periodontal, or ‘Gum Disease’. Gum disease involves a serious and sometimes chronic gum infection that can damage your gums and jawbone causing loose teeth and loss of teeth!... After the age of 35, it’s more likely to lose more teeth from periodontal disease than to tooth decay. But this disease is preventable! It’s important to maintain a healthy oral care routine, which includes regular half-yearly or annual check-ups with your dentist. This is to prevent the build up of plaque and tartar between and on your teeth which, left untreated, can cause damage to not only your teeth and gums, but may eventually affect your jaw and surrounding tooth structures. Book your regular check-up and clean today Online http://bit.ly/mascotdentalclinic Or by calling us on (02) 9098 6990 Read more information on oral health for adults here: https://www.colgate.com.au/oral/life-stages/adult-oral-care #oralhealth #gumdisease #periodontaldisease #promotingoralhealth #mascotdentalclinic

19.01.2022 Getting braces can mean changing your tooth brushing routine a little bit Braces can mean wires and brackets, bands, expanders, elastics and springs! This makes cleaning a little more difficult Here are a few tips on how to keep your teeth AND braces clean during your treatment ! ... Brushing at the gum line of your teeth - Hold the tooth brush at a 45 degree angle to brush your gumline, then point the tooth brush upwards and downwards to clean the bottom and top of your brackets Flossing - This can be done by -threading- the floss between the main wire and your teeth at the gumline This will help to avoid buildup between your brackets ! Avoiding or limiting heavily staining or sugary foods as these can cause obvious stains around your brackets or build decay that can become permanent, and become more apparent once your braces are removed For an orthodontic consult with one of our dentists, book online at http://bit.ly/mascotdentalclinic or call us on (02) 9098 6990 #braces #ortho #orthodontics #mascotdentalclinic

19.01.2022 Your Child's oral health is important from the very beggining ! It may make sense to wait until they've got a full set of baby teeth before having their first visit to the dentist, however it's recommended to have their first visit by the 12 month mark or once their first tooth pops out ! The Australian Dental Associaton recommends brushing your toddlers teeth with cold water and a soft children's toothbrush until they're 18 months old. After that, you can start you can ...start using toothpaste to gently brush each tooth and around the gums in a soft circular motion. Tooth decay can be a reality for some children, but this is PREVENTABLE ! Early dental visits are one step to stop tooth decay and another is to limit sugary drinks and food and encourage a consistent brushing routine at least 2 times a day ! If you are concerned about your child's teeth or spot anything that might be decay, it's best to book a dental appoinntment to help stop the decay in its tracks ! You can book an appointment for your child to see one of our lovely and patient dentists today by calling us on (02) 9098 6990 or booking online http://bit.ly/mascotdentalclinic Find more infomation here; https://www.ada.org.au/Your-Dental-H/Children-0-11/Toddlers #childrensdentistry #oralhealthforkids #mascotdentalclinic

18.01.2022 Happy Friday! Here's some tips on caring not only for your teeth (which is super important), but also taking care of your Toothbrush! DO NOT share your toothbrush! This could result in exchanging harmful bacteria and microorganisms which could put either user at greater risk for infection! ... Rinse your toothbrush well after using it and store in an upright position to allow the toothbrush to air-dry Make sure to keep your toothbrush in a cool, dry environment and avoid routinely covering or storing them in closed containers. This is to prevent the growth of nasty microorganisms! And finally, replace your toothbrush at least every 3-4 months. You will find that when the bristles become frayed, cleaning becomes less effective! If your toothbrush wears out sooner, change it for a new one! If you are in need of a clean or due for your regular check-up, give us a call on (02) 9098 6990 or book online any time at http://bit.ly/mascotdentalclinic #mascotdentalclinic #brushyourteeth

17.01.2022 If you are suffering from a toothache, experiencing tenderness or have an abscess above one or more of your teeth, you may have an infection in the area A root canal treatment is used to save or repair a tooth that has been damaged. A tooth can become damaged or infected in several ways, such as from decay or trauma. Root canal treatment involves cleaning out the infected pulp and tissue inside the middle of your teeth and replacing it with a natural rubber filling to avoi...d reinfection. Root canal treatment is completed over several appointments This treatment preserves the natural tooth and thus the natural bone level. It is always advisable, if possible, to save natural teeth as extracting them can cause issues with aesthetics and function.
