23.01.2022 ... and SOLD! A lovely way to end our Saturday, by seeing this beautiful painting by Lanita Numina off to a fabulous new home. Mason Gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-3pm, and weekdays from 9am-5pm.

23.01.2022 Today Caroline Numina brought us in quite a treat, 'Emu Dreaming', which is a Dreamtime story that Caroline rarely paints. Caroline’s dot work in this painting is exquisite, and her rich, involving Dry Season palette is beautiful. In this painting, Caroline shares the journey of her Emu ancestor across the surface of the desert. The journey lines represent the Emu’s travels as she searches for water and food. As is common throughout the desert, the sources of food and water a...re beneath the surface, and the Emus must scratch out the moisture and the many different varieties of seeds to eat. If you are enjoying our 'Inspirations 2', please feel free to share our page with your friends who might also enjoy our imaginings. You can also enjoy the entire 'Inspirations' series on our website: https://www.masongallery.com.au/inspirational-interiors 'Emu Dreaming' by Caroline Numina. Acrylic on canvas. 95cms x 94cms. We always welcome sales inquiries to [email protected]

22.01.2022 These beautiful little pieces by Debbie Napaltjarri Brown are created using five sticks that decrease in size like her mesmerising dotting, depict the sand hills (tali) of Nyirripi - her Father’s Jukurrpa (Dreamings). The sand hills feature in the sacred, ancient stories of her land, its features, plants and animals shared with Debbie by her Mother, Joy Nangala Brown, her Grandmother, Margaret Napangardi Brown, and her Grandfather, Pegleg Tjampitjinpa - all artists of renown. These unique little creations measure approximately 30cm x 20cm, and frame up beautifully in pairs or as a triptych to make the perfect gift. Mason Gallery is open from 9am-5pm on weekdays, and from 10am-3pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

21.01.2022 We always enjoy taking delivery of new pieces by Kenny Reid. Kenny is a Larrakia man, born in Darwin, whose paintings depict saltwater crocodiles, barramundi, mud crabs and turtles who share his traditional Saltwater Country. We also have a great selection of Kenny's carvings. He collects his own wood for carving, and his carvings are painted using traditional Larrakia designs. Kenny’s art and designs were used at the railway terminal in Darwin, East Arm. Iron casts of Kenny’s carvings are on site at the Tiger Brennan Drive overpass. He carved the first dugout canoe made in 60 years for the Larrakia Nation Museum Project in 2003, and his dugout canoes are on display at the Coomalie Cultural Centre in Batchelor. Mason Gallery is fully air-conditioned and we are open weekdays from 9am-5pm and 10am-3pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

21.01.2022 We are so excited to have taken delivery of our wonderful new stock of Bush Medijina products from Groote Eylandt. Our range includes soaps, clay and ochre scrubs, hair oil, body butter, and lip and body balms. Bush Medijina was born from the desire of Warningakalina elders to address the need to build culture and capability across the archipelago to positively impact the livelihoods of women, children and families. Governed by an all-female board, eighty percent of the team ...are Indigenous, and one hundred percent of the team are women. The Bush Medijina women (all of whom have Anindilyakwa as a first language), are giving Warningakalina women a voice, and the capacity to be leaders and self-governing decision-makers for their business, families, communities, and their future. The Bush Medijina vision is to be a sustainable, independent enterprise that supports our women, our culture, our community and our future. Their products are beautifully packaged and make the perfect gifts. Mason Gallery is open from 9am5pm weekdays and 10am3pm on weekends.

20.01.2022 We were thrilled to take delivery of this sensational piece by Sharon Numina yesterday, and what a stunning creation it is. 'My Country Dreaming' (detail) depicts Sharon’s Country - the Utopia region of the eastern desert. The journey lines travel through bush medicine leaves and seeds, spinifex grass and wildflowers. Mason Gallery is open from 9am-5pm weekdays, and from 10am-3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. We also welcome sales inquiries to [email protected]

19.01.2022 On the eve of the spectacular lightning show we had in Darwin last night, Ivan Namarnyilk delivered this magnificent painting to the gallery. Namarrkon, the Lightning Spirit, who is Ivan’s Totem, is a spirit being in Kunwinjku mythology that is associated with the great electrical storms of the tropical Wet Season, and it is said that Namarrkon sits above the Earth watching what is happening below. Namarrkon is encircled in a bolt of lightning, and attached to his elbows and... knees are stone axes, and with these axes Namarrkon is capable of directing bolts of lightning to Earth by striking them together. Namarrkon is said to be responsible for the storms of the Wet Season and is regarded as a dangerous being, punishing those below with bolts of lightning when they disobey appropriate law and custom. Mason Gallery is open from 9am-5pm on weekdays, and from 10am-3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. We also welcome any sales enquiries to [email protected]

19.01.2022 Sharon Numina has also been busy creating a series of beautiful small paintings, including Bush Medicine Leaves and Seeds and Bush Yam Dreaming. These lovely little pieces are 37cm x 27cm (approximately), and they work beautifully either individually or as pairs or triptychs. Mason Gallery is open from 10am-3pm on Saturdays and Sundays, and from 9am-5pm on weekdays.

18.01.2022 Fantastic to be able to welcome Betty and her sister Joy to the gallery this morning with their latest Pandanus weavings - five beautiful mats. Betty and her family have been on Country for some months now, and it was a real treat to be able to welcome them back to Mason Gallery this morning. Mason Gallery is open from 9am-5pm weekdays, and from 10am-3pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

17.01.2022 For our inspiration today, we share another of the incredible paintings we have in stock by Tony Sorby. Tony is a Kamilaroi man, and this large painting (180cms x 120cms) is certainly the perfect statement piece even in the expansive living room we have chosen to present it in for you. ‘Journey tracks to sacred water sites’ tells the story of the the Kamilaroi Tribe, who for thousands of years, lived as hunter gatherers and performed various ceremonies in the vast areas of ...the Kamilaroi Lands that stretch from the Upper Hunter Valley west to the Warrumbungle Mountains and north into south west Queensland. At many of these ceremonial sites, trunks of trees were carved, comprising of symbolic motifs, intricate swirls, circles and zigzags. These carvings were a warning that these sites, including sacred water sites, were spiritually significant. If you are enjoying our 'Inspirations 2', please feel free to share our page with your friends who might also enjoy what we have lined up to share with you. You can also enjoy the entire 'Inspirations' series on our website: https://www.masongallery.com.au/inspirational-interiors ‘Journey tracks to sacred water sites’ by Tony Sorby. 180cms x 120cms. 16.01.2022 Today we would like to share a small selection of the extensive range of beautiful pandanus weavings we have for sale at Mason Gallery. To create these intricate pieces, women harvest the Pandanus, and then strip the strands into thin little strands that are then dried and dyed. All the dyes are natural, and the women use a combination of bark, plant roots, leaves, flowers, berries, and grasses. The colours are also achieved not only by the combination of the natural elements..., but also the length of time that the individual strands of Pandanus are left in the dying mixture. The colours also change according the seasons. For example, during the Wet Season the reds can be much darker. We hope you enjoy this selection. Mason Gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-3pm, and weekdays from 9am-5pm. We also welcome enquiries at [email protected]

15.01.2022 Introducing the new pieces by one of our most popular and instantly recognisable artists, Les Huddleston. We did have four new paintings by Les, but one has already left the building! These paintings are celebratory representations of the dancing Brolgas and Mimi Spirits dancing together. Mason Gallery is open seven days a week, from 9am-5pm weekdays and 10-3pm on weekends. We also welcome sales enquiries to [email protected]

15.01.2022 Today we celebrate a joyful story, told with an abundance of pink by the fabulous Louise Numina! In this painting - ‘Body Paint’ - Louise’s confidence and expertise as an artist is obvious, as we can tell from the bold colour choice and free-flowing brushstrokes that combined to bring this energetic piece to life. In ‘Body Paint’, Louise reflects the designs used in women’s ceremony body painting, traditionally finger-painted on the breasts and upper bodies of the singers and... dancers. The women come together to sing, dance, share bush tucker, stories and much laughter! If you are enjoying our 'Inspirations 2', please feel free to share our page with your friends who might also enjoy what we have lined up to share with you. You can also enjoy the entire 'Inspirations' series on our website: https://www.masongallery.com.au/inspirational-interiors ‘Body Paint’ by Louise Numina. Acrylic on canvas. 92cms x 92cms. 15.01.2022 Today we are thrilled to have received this mesmerising painting 'My Country - Brown Dingo' from Lanita Numina. In this painting, with layers of intricate, interwoven dot work, Lanita shares the story of one of her ancestors, the brown dingo, travelling across the desert in search of water. The dingo’s journey is represented by the white dots, the desert surface is represented by the orange and yellow dots, and the blue dots represent the water the little brown dingo eventual...ly discovers. Lanita has exhibited at Charles Darwin University, and one of her paintings was selected to be the Northern Territory Government's gift to Prince Frederick and Princess Mary of Denmark. 'My Country - Brown Dingo' by Lanita Numina. Acrylic on Belgian Linen. 100cm x 124cm. 14.01.2022 It's always very special to be able to share stories of young, up and coming artists we have the pleasure to meet in the gallery. Earlier this month, Kira Djorlom came into Darwin from Oenpelli, Gunbalanya (Western Arnhem Land) to sell her beautiful pandanus basket. We are always an absolute push-over when it comes to weavings. And today, Kira's basket went off to a new home. Tomorrow we will share some more of the pieces from our extensive range of pandanus weavings from throughout Arnhem Land and the Top End.

14.01.2022 For today’s inspiration, we add another beautiful piece from Warlukurlangu to our imaginary home gallery Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming), Puyurru by Glenda Napanangka Martin. In her painting, Glenda shares the epic Ngapa Jukurrpa Dreamtime story that begins at the sacred site of Puyurru, west of Yuendumu. In the creek beds, that are usually dry, are mulju (soakages), or naturally occurring wells. Two Jangala men, rainmakers, sang the rain and unleashed a giant storm. At a... nearby waterhole known as Warlura, 8 miles east of Yuendumu, a gecko called Yumariyumari blew the storm on to Lapurrukurra and Wilpiri. Bolts of lightning shot out at Wirnpa and Kanaralji. The Water Dreaming then built hills at Ngamangama using baby clouds, and also stuck long pointy clouds into the ground at Jukajuka, where they can still be seen today as rock formations. If you are enjoying our 'Inspirations 2', please feel free to share our page with your friends who might also enjoy our imaginings. 12.01.2022 We are extremely fortunate to have launched into the weekend by taking delivery of this exquisite piece by Ivan Namarnyilk - 'Yawk Yawk Sister'. The Yawk Yawk Sisters, Likanaya and Marrayka, are friendly female spirits that live downstream from the sacred dreaming site of the Malwon. The sisters are human in stature, except when in water their legs turn in to fish tails, so they can swim as long as they want. Ivan is the son of Spider Baida Namarnyilk, a famous artist who passed away in the early 1980s. Ivan has two older brothers, Neville and Robert. Mason Gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-3pm, and weekdays from 9am-5pm. The gallery is fully air-conditioned, and we look forward to welcoming you.

08.01.2022 For today’s inspiration, we share with you two pieces from the Top End. On the left is Samuel Nayinggul’s exceptional ‘Barramundi’. Samuel’s Country is Mikginj Valley, in Western Arnhemland, about 240km east of Darwin. The fish species known as Barramundi has been around for some 8,000 years, and is a very important ancestral being as well as an important source of nourishment. Images of Barramundi fill the rock galleries in the Arnhem Land escarpments, as well as the bark pa...intings. On the right is another of our new pieces from Eddie Blitner, ‘Giljiring Giljiring’ (The Mermaids of Naiyalrindji Country on the Roper River, 270 km south-east of Katherine), being visited by their friends and constant companions, the Brolga, Spoonbill and Jabiru. As with so many of Eddie’s paintings, he perfectly captures the joy and intimacy of these important connections between friends and companions. 08.01.2022 For our inspiration today, we share another of the wonderful new paintings in stock by Nellie Marks Nakamarra. Nellie’s Country is the Walungurru (Kintore) area of Central Australia, 1,212kms south of Darwin and 40kms from the Federation border of the Northern Territory with Western Australia. In her painting ‘Women’s Ceremony’, Nellie shares the designs associated with women’s ceremonies at the rockhole and water soakage sites of Ngaminya, south of Kiwirrkurra in the Gibson ...Desert. The design shows the ground where floodwaters have been and are now receding. The surface of the desert is beginning to crack as it dries out from the heat of the sun, and women have now gathered here again to collect bush tucker and water, and to complete their ceremonies. If you are enjoying our 'Inspirations 2', please feel free to share our page with your friends who might also enjoy what we have lined up to share with you.
