09.01.2022 A few people have suggested that I post the reason for not opening so many hours post COVID. It is really pretty simple. Most of our trade is local, and the most often purchased item is a carton of beer. We are very grateful for this trade, but it is not hugely profitable. In a best case scenario, before costs, 50 ctns of beer sold makes $750. Seven days wages for the shop (8 hour days) costs $1800 or more. It just does not add up. With tourists buying 6 packs and bottles of wine, and the associated grocery trade that brings, we can open 6 or 7 hours a day usually in season. But not his year I fear. We will continue to try to serve you from the cafe when we can, and I hope to announce a small increase in shop hours soon, but please understand that with only one shop/cafe person on jobkeeper, I am limited by what I can do.
