19.01.2022 No, its not magic, witchcraft, or voodoo! Thats actually a conversation I had with a client a number of years ago. Hed been referred to me by a Sports... Physiotherapist for my specialised pain management dry needling. The physiotherapist was having the world of trouble assessing the cause of this guys pain. You see, he tested positive to every assessment the physio performed. Kinda of makes it hard to rule things out, right? So, the guy comes to see me, and I go to work. First, I inserted very fine acupuncture needles into specific points around his body, then I followed up with some gentle massage techniques and stretches. Thats why he would need a couple more follow up treatments. You see, when applied using this specialised pain management protocol, the needles can desensitize the nerve and reduce or remove the pain. Depending on the cause of the pain, the effects can last from days, to weeks to even years. After three treatments the guy was back at the physio. Dry Needling is a broad term that gives little to no indication as to what actually happens or what the expected outcome should be. Most commonly, dry needling is used to release trigger points and tight bands in muscles. You know, those tender knots that can refer pain to other areas of your body. This style of needling can be very uncomfortable, due to the needles being twisted and manipulated as part of the process.
