23.01.2022 Hip Mobility Opening up our hips can make huge changes for us as we often compensate our movements because they are tight! Everyday habits like watching TV, driving a car or sitting at a desk can lead to decreased hip mobility.... The below exercise is a gentle way to start the process to opening up our hips. Ideally we get to a 90/90 with our knees and hips and rotate. Let your body guide you as our mobility will all be very different. Rotate left to right, 6 times each side x 3. If that seems to difficult you can hold it each side for 30 seconds and build from there each week. #remedialmassageadelaide #massageadelaide #healingartsstudio

16.01.2022 Thoracic Mobility Continued . . . . . How did you find last weeks exercise? There are many different ways to unlock and keep the mobility in your thoracic region. For this next exercise you can stay in this position (each side for balance of course) for 30 seconds or do 10 reps on each side x 3. If you can incorporate this into your daily routine along with some foam rolling you will feel the difference.... make sure you follow your hand with your eyes and with all stretches or exercises don’t forget to breath #remedialmassageadelaide #massageadelaide #healingartsstudio

15.01.2022 **Friday foam rolling tip** Back pain? Sitting at a desk all day? Video ... More info Long lie stretch This is a great stretch for someone who spends time at a desk. This exercise helps to counteract poor posture from your day at work, allowing chest and neck muscles to gently stretch. Lying on a foam roller for five to ten minutes after work will help to reverse this effect. This stretch will also help the thoracic spine. When the thoracic spine retains good mobility and is allowed to relax into extension, the muscles of the upper back will function better. Important - Keep your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor(This will help to protect your lower back from unnecessary strain) - Make sure that your head is adequately supported by the foam roller. - Lying on a foam roller shouldnt be sore. Some people however will simply not be able to tolerate lying on a roller that is too hard. If you encounter pain, try lying on a rolled up towel or blanket instead. You will still get some of the benefit! - You can also try stretching your arms out to the side in order to get an added stretch to the chest muscles.

This stretch will increase your range of motion, reduce tension, improve flexibility and prevent injury Feet shoulder width apart Engage Core Stick/Brush/Pipe above your head Go to a range that it comfortable And repeat For an advanced version you can try figure of 8 and side to side (video 2&3) Make sure you move the shoulders before you start, some discomfort is ok but dont go so far its painful!

08.01.2022 **Friday Foam Rolling Tip** Working on your quadriceps (quads) is important as they are what bend and flex your legs! Keeping them flexible and working out any knots will help any tightness in joints - either back or knee! ... You can do this movement by lying flat onto the roller using both legs or as in the video you can do it single leg and rotate towards your IT band. See you if you can find a nice trigger point to hold for for a few seconds! Another great exercise to add to your roller routine.

04.01.2022 **Friday Foam Rolling Tip** Tight Hips? Too little exercise? Too much exercise? ... Video and more info One of my favourites! Especially after a long kitesurfing session. Rolling out your glutes () can give great relief to any hip tightness. This can also help ease out the back. Place one leg over the other and roll gently. Hopefully you can find some nice areas to target When youre done switch legs for more relief. Remember foam rolling shouldnt be painful so dont forget you can use a rolled up towel if needed. 02.01.2022 Thoracic Mobility This movement is for increasing mobility in your upper back. Certainly for those of us that spend the day hunched over a desk, this is a great way to undo some of that! Incorporating the hip flexor stretch will give a great overall feeling too and will release some of the tightness that builds from sitting all day. Releasing your thoracic is also proven to help ease neck pain ... Why not get a few of these in during your lunch break? Right leg forward x 10 and repeat on the left side. You can buy a roller for under $10 - if you’re just starting this is perfect, if you stop getting the relief and it feels too soft just upgrade to a firmer roller.
