19.01.2022 Drink More Water To Be Healthier and Better Looking You have probably heard that our bodies are around 60% water, and that it is essential to our survival. Having enough water in our body increases energy production and helps maximise physical performance. It is essential for our kidneys and other bodily functions.... Drinking plenty of water also helps prevent and relieve headaches. Dehydrated muscles cause pain! Massage therapists see this all the time, and I often recommend to my clients that they drink 8 glasses a day which helps immensely. So many headaches are caused by simple muscle dehydration. Water helps our mental state as well. A fluid loss of even just 1% or 2% can reduce motivation, increase fatigue, and impair mood, memory and concentration. So if you want to feel brighter and more focussed, water may help with that. And, if you still need more reasons, research shows that a higher water intake may help prevent hangovers, boost the immune system, improve skin complexion and aid weight loss. So basically, it helps you stay healthy and it makes you better looking! And best of all, water is available FREE and plentiful. Even if you choose bottled water it’s still cheaper than sugary or caffeinated alternatives. One thing I sometimes get asked is, does coffee count? Or beer? After all, these are both made by using water. But unfortunately, caffeine and alcohol are both diuretics, meaning they make you lose more water than they put in and may actually make dehydration worse. So make water your drink of choice, and you will look and feel even better.

16.01.2022 3 SIMPLE STEPS TO A HEALTHY LIFE What does it mean to feel truly healthy? The first step to a healthier life... Actually, the first step to a healthier life is defining what you actually want for your own health! This can mean something different to everyone. Create some goals for yourself around how you want to feel or specific outcomes you’d like to achieve. Like I want to run a half marathon next August or I want to feel more energetic and motivated. What would achieving these goals look like for you? And what would they mean for you once you are there? Once you have your goals they help you to know what your next steps are to achieve it. You can learn about how to prepare for a marathon or read up on nutrition for better energy. Step 2: Balance action with rest You must take action towards your goal in order to make progress and eventually achieve it. Did you know that when a body builder wants to build muscle, they push right to the edge of their ability by lifting the heaviest weights they can. This actually causes tiny micro-tears in the muscle fibres. (That’s why it hurts!) Then, during the next day or so, those muscle fibres repair themselves and the muscle grows stronger and bigger. Our bodies are amazing! And this example of how we grow and improve is reflected across a lot of different activities. We need times of powerful action where we are stretched to our limits. Then we need times of rest and recovery. The rhythm of both of these together creates the most powerful growth. So as you grow towards your goals, include times for healthy rest. Step 3: Support your body Your body needs care and support as you work towards your new goals. Healthy food, plenty of sleep, lots of water, and good mental health are all vitally important. Sometimes we know what we should do, but find ourselves in a place where our habits don’t match up to the outcomes we want. Charles Duhigg explains in his book The Power of Habit that there’s nothing you can’t do if you get the habits right. And creating new habits works best when you make small changes over time, rather than try to force a fast and complete change with immense willpower. So try looking for just one small step you can take to move towards healthier habits. And give yourself a pat on the back with every small healthy choice you make.

12.01.2022 IMPORTANT: We are NOW OPEN with restrictions in place. As a health care practitioner I care for the health of my clients as well as my own. COVID-19 is primarily spread between people when we directly touch or breath the air of someone who is already infected, or through touching a surface that has been recently infected.... Hygiene and infection control is actually part of a massage therapist’s training because of the nature of our work. So I wanted to share with you the precautions I am taking here in my treatment room. Things I always do to be clean and sanitary: I use fresh linen for each client (as always) I wash my hands thoroughly with disinfectant before each client (as always) My treatment environment is clean and sanitary (as always) Bathrooms and shared spaces are regularly cleaned and disinfected (as always) Clients are asked not to attend if they are sick (as always) At the moment I am also adding the precautions of: I ask clients not to attend if they have recently travelled or been in contact with any confirmed cases I provide sanitising hand wash for each client on entering and leaving the room I am using an approved disinfectant wash on commonly touched surfaces before each client Given the recent government clarification showing that remedial massage is allowed to be practiced here I am continuing to provide the usual care and support for all my clients with extra safety precautions and restrictions in place. As the situation unfolds and we learn more, I will continue to follow the advice from the authorities. Please get in touch if you have any questions or wish to book an appointment.
