20.01.2022 Why am I confident returning to work? As remedial massage was added back to the essential services list during the covid-19 outbreak I knew I was confident at creating a safer environment for my clients and myself. What you may not know about me is that in my earlier working days I was a dental assistant. One of my main roles was assisting in dental implant and bone graft surgeries in a sterile environment. ... I knew that the knowledge and skills I had from preparing and assisting in these environments would help me in my current role to help reduce the spread of covid-19 in the treatment room and studio. So I would like to share with you the existing and new measures in place to help reduce the potential spread of covid should you come in for treatment: * A two part cleaning system; a spray and wipe first to help remove any potential bodily fluids followed by 70% IPA hospital grade wipes. * Water resistant disposable face hole covers to reduce the potential for bodily fluids coming in contact with the face hole on the massage table. * All surfaces wiped in the treatment room and reception after every client (chairs, table, eftpos machines, door handles etc). * Face masks; I will wear a face mask during treatment that requires me to be in close proximity to your face, or during the whole treatment if you wish. I also have disposable fave mask for you to wear if you choose to. * Hand sanitiser available in the treatment room and at reception. * Fresh towels with every treatment (they are washed at 90degrees: an industry standard). * Disposable gloves are available if you would like me or yourself to wear them. * 30 minute gaps between clients to give me plenty time to thoroughly clean the treatment room and to avoid people gathering at reception/waiting room. While it may come as over kill to some, its important to me that you all feel safe when coming in for treatment. While there are no guarantees when it comes to cross infection, I will strive to do my best to keep us all safe. To book an appointment you can contact me by phone or email. Bookings can be made online for June 15th onwards.

12.01.2022 Were back in business! With a pretty new treatment room. After a long shut down we are finally able to open back up our doors for massage as we are now on the essential services list. I have missed all your lovely faces, and great conversation we have during our treatment sessions. I think Im more excited to see you than you will be to see me! Haha! I just wanted to let you all know Ill be back in the studio from Tuesday 5th May 2020 and treating Monday to Friday with var...ying hours each day. Our doors are continuing to stay closed on weekends until we feel it is safe to re-open. We are taking a slow approach opening our books back up for massage. For the time being, we will not be taking any online bookings. This ensures we are not booking clients in close together. You can book in with me by email, phone, or text. We will be keeping treatments to strictly remedial massage only unless your condition/s requires a delicate approach (for example fibromyalgia pain). Strict hygiene practices are still in place and will continue moving forward. I have complete the governments COVID-19 training for health care workers to ensure all of our safety. While the pandemic continues I will be spacing out my appointment book with 30-minute gaps between clients to ensure there is no rushing to clean the treatment room and reception and to avoid people gathering in the waiting room/reception. Our communities safety is paramount, therefore we ask if you are: - Sick with cold or flu-like symptoms (dry cough, fever, sore throat or fatigue) - Recently traveled overseas - Been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 Please reschedule your appointment for a minimum of two weeks time and seek guidance from your GP. If you arrive with any cold or flu-like symptoms you will not be seen and your appointment rescheduled. We ask you to respect our community safety and truthfully answer our questions on triage to your appointment. I hope youve all been well and I look forward to seeing the back of your head on the table soon!

12.01.2022 I’ve had the privilege of hearing so many people’s stories and experiences over 2020. What stood out the most (whether they realised it or not) was their ability to adapt to new situations and when faced with a challenge, find new ways to adapt and experience life. Us humans are pretty great like that. We were forced to take a look at ourselves this year and reflect on what was important to us. For some, working from home gave them extra time with their family that they’ve ...never got to experience before; a blessing they now treasure and refuse to let go of. Others found a new found love for gardening, fostering animals, exercise, arts, journaling, volunteer work etc that gave them strength and focus that will carry them forward for years to come. Of all of the things we learnt over the year I feel the most important lesson we learnt is to not feel guilt about doing what you need to do to thrive in life. Staff have said no to retuning to the office full time. Covid showed it’s not necessary. People have said yes to self care. Covid showed us life can change in a moment and it’s important to honour ourselves first. So if you take anything from 2020, don’t take guilt. Leave that behind today as we move on to the new year. Take with you the RESILIENCE you mustered when things got hard, Take the PATIENCE you practiced with social distancing and long ques, Take the DETERMINATION you conjured taking up a new skill or finding a new job, Take the LOVE you watched the world give to each other as lock downs unfolded. Take your STRENGTHS into 2021 and when you look in the rearview mirror and see 2020 behind you, know that is where it is. It’s not longer in front of you. You conquered that hill, and it has prepared you for the next no matter how big or small. I hope you all have a great NYE and I’ll see you all in 2021 for some Yoga & Massage!

04.01.2022 How Massage Helps Pain: The Science Behind Pain Gate Theory. By Steph (RMT) Most of us have experienced a remedial or relaxation massage at some point in our lives. After our session we get up off the table feeling relaxed and thankfully find a reduction in pain. While massage therapist love hearing our clients say we have magic hands there is a science behind why massage can be effective for pain relief. To understand this first we must explore our nervous system. ... Our nervous system is vast and complex but we’re all familiar with the basics of it being made up of our brain, spinal cord and nerves. This is known as the Central Nervous System (CNS). It’s job is to communicate with the body so we can walk, talk and feel pain. It does this through the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS). Cool! So what’s this got to do with massage? Well, to understand how massage helps with pain, first we must understand how our body communicates. Our nerves are made of cells called neurons that are responsible for carrying messages from one part of the body to another. This includes the brain telling our arms and legs to move as well as pain signals when we injure ourselves or when we have a pesky muscle that’s aching. Each of these neurons (cells) in the brain have the ability to communicate to each other. The nerve cells (neurons) communicate through a process of synapses where neurotransmitters are sent between cells to relay information (electrical impulses). It’s through this process that we are able to move, and also how we feel pain. The efficiency and speed of information being sent from one cell to another is influenced by the cells insulation (myelin sheath). The pain signals we experience are sent through uninsulated cells and as a result information is sent slowly. When we massage the body we are inputting stimulus to the nervous system in the form of touch. This sensory input is received by neurons that are insulated and send information more rapidly unlike those that transmit pain. It is theorised in the Pain Gate Theory that it is because the sensory input from massage travels faster than the pain signal, it reaches the brain first closing the gate to the pain message. Pretty cool right! This is also why when we use heat packs, ice packs or TENS machines we find a reduction or elimination of muscular pain. Think back to the times you may have banged your shin or elbow into something and instinctively started rubbing it as it helps with the pain. It was through that sensory input from rubbing your skin you were able to help switch off the pain signals. There are other theories as to how the Pain Gate works and how massage, meditation, breath work and yoga can be effective for pain. But for today we will stick with this side of the evidence so we don’t end up with a headache and need a massage!

03.01.2022 Om or Moo... Either way, a few moments of breath and a moment of silence can be as good as a quick afternoon kip!

02.01.2022 Ive got 3 spots left for next week. Seems Im not the only one dying for a massage! Im only taking bookings by phone/text or email during the outbreak to ensure theres no back to back appointments and to avoid being rushed so proper hygiene protocols are being met.

01.01.2022 Hows your tension going today? Take 3 nice long breaths in through the nose, and out through the mouth. Allow those muscles to relax, allow the mind a moment of ease.

25.12.2021 After 2 weeks off teaching I’m back tomorrow night at 6.15pm! Come get your vinyasa on and sleep like a baby afterwards!
