25.01.2022 Dear Paddlers and Friends of the MMP It is with great sadness that we have been forced to cancel the 2020 Massive Murray Paddle. A couple of days ago the Victorian Government released their roadmap to re-opening the state and the goals that need to be achieved are very tight and one is even on November 23.... Based on this, the MMP falls outside of these Government guidelines. The MMP for next year, 2021, is November 22 to 26, 2021. The most important thing is that you and your families are safe and well and stay Covid free. We are very disappointed to have to cancel our great race this year, however we really look forward to seeing you all in 2021. Please take care, stay safe, and keep paddling. Warmest Regards, Shannon and Kate O'Brien MMP Directors NOTE: A more detailed personalised email was just sent to all registered paddlers. #WearALifejacket

The relay paddlers are completing 20km a day over the five days. Tim and I will complete 40km a day. ... MASSIVE MURRAY PADDLE VIRTUAL: 16-20 NOV 2020 Meeting at 0800. 24.01.2022 And our final post for the MMP2020 virtual race is from our major MMP sponsor - The Wear a Lifejacket Paddle Safe Message from Transport for NSW As paddlers of the MMP, can you please do the following (and act as Paddle Safe Ambassadors): ... 1) Wear a lifejacket when you are out on the water. 2) Encourage others to wear lifejackets out on the water 3) Make sure you practice 'Be Bright Be Seen' > Paddle in a group > Wear a long sleeve paddling top (maybe something other than black) > Ideally wear a high-vis lifejacket > Wear a bright hat > Paddle a coloured kayak or canoe with some colour on the paddle > If you are someone that loves to wear mostly black when you paddle (or have an all black canoe, ski or kayak, then this is OK as long as you balance it out with a high-vis hat and lifejacket and get some reflective tape on the back of your paddle. and please be aware of the conditions as they can change very quickly. Be Paddle Safe and we will see you all on the water soon... NSW Maritime Maritime Safety Victoria Paddle Safe / Paddle Smart

22.01.2022 It is now 5.30pm and if we were all together at Yarrawonga, we would be out on the football oval all thinking 'I wonder when Adam will be finished with this damn safety briefing'..... We are so sad that we are not all together right now... I hope that you are all well and healthy.
22.01.2022 To welcome in the start of 'Safe Boating Week' 26 Sept to 2 Oct - We say to all kayakers "Paddle Safe Paddle Smart": SAFE Paddling is S = Seaworthiness Seaworthiness, in the broad sense, applies to the suitability of craft, equipment and apparel. It also applies to paddlers (their skill levels and their experience) when related to their specific paddling disciplines and the conditions in which they are conducted. ... A = Awareness To stay safe, paddlers must be aware of their own abilities and those of their paddling companions. They need to be aware of where they are and where they need to get to and the risks they will need to manage along the way. Safety conscious paddlers are aware that by being highly visible (e.g. wearing bright clothing) they are reducing the prospect of being run over by another, bigger, boat. They also are aware of other risks (such as the conditions, the environment, boating traffic, etc.) and the interconnection between them is vital for safe paddling. F = Fitness Mental and physical fitness are of paramount importance to safe paddling. It is important to realise that there are many variables associated with safe paddling but generally speaking the tougher the challenge the greater the level of physical and mental fitness required to stay safe. E = Exposure Paddlers are all exposed to conditions (both natural and man-made) that have the potential to cause injury or death. Safety conscious paddlers will always assess risks of exposure and adjust their paddling plans to ensure they stay within the bounds of safety. They are also aware of the strong interconnection of all the variables of exposure and how each one has the potential to adversely impact on another and thus dramatically reduce levels of safety. #WearALifejacket / #SafeBoatingWeek / Paddle Safe / Paddle Smart / #NationalSafeBoatingWeek
22.01.2022 Well the new buffs have turned up, we just now need a race to run. We are still planning that there will be some positive news (why be ‘glass half empty types’) Anyway. We are tracking the movements with both the Victorian and NSW Governments, and it seems like there are main decisions that come out mid September. ... We are fine with all of our key stakeholders and we will advise registered paddlers as we find out more throughout September. Regards Shannon & Kate #WearALifejacket

14.01.2022 Kate and I place DAY THREE into the GREAT Category - it has absolutely everything - beautiful start, terrific facilities, a fast flow, it's a shorter day, the journey is spectacular, everyone is friendly after two tough days, Echuca and Moama are amazing towns and the early finish makes for the best afternoon festival... How about the beautiful traditional welcome into the beach by the Yorta Yorta Nation's elders, the smoking ceremony is so spiritual. You then get to stay in... super accommodation in either of the two border town's. What is your best DAY THREE experience? It is about 2.12pm and the finishers 'would be' arriving into the boat ramp in about 45 minutes....

01.01.2022 A Paddle Safe / Paddle Smart safety message from all of us at Sydney Harbour Kayaks and Mirage Sea Kayaks. BE BRIGHT BE SEEN when you are out on your kayak or surfski. What does it mean? ... > Here are some tips from Kate, Alex, Bronte and Max > Always Paddle with your friends. > Wear a bright lifejacket Yellow, Red or High-Vis colours are best. > Get some colour on your paddle - The more colourful the better. > Surf-Ski paddlers - Make sure your ski has safety colour decals on the bow & stern - A solid black or white ski is tough to see. > Paddling a kayak that has a ‘safety colour’ is best; - yellow, orange or red > Make sure your ski & paddle isn’t plain white; get some bright colours on them. > If you love to wear all black colours, then you MUST get a high-visibility lifejacket. > Wear a bright hat or cap, its good for sun protection, however great to be seen. > Most importantly, make sure you are very aware of the conditions. The weather changes; sometimes very quickly. If it gets choppy, then it is very hard for boaters to see paddlers. #bebrightbeseen / #wearalifejacket / #paddlesafe / #PaddleSmart Transport for NSW / NSW Maritime / Paddle Safe / Paddle Smart
