22.01.2022 Group classes can be the perfect way to start if you are a total beginner! These students have had just 8 lessons, and all gave a successful performance in our fortnightly studio concert. Their teacher, Angela, joined them on stage to provide accompaniment and support them through their first performance. 19.01.2022 Today we mourn the loss of our 2019 Annual Gala Concert performing guest William Li. William didn't tell a soul that he was suffering from a terminal illness and we have received a touching letter from him thanking us for his experience playing at our concert. William has performed a piece, which he wrote himself in dedication to his friend who committed suicide. It is us who should thank William for playing this piece and being so unbelievably unforgettable and moving. May... your soul rest in peace. This is what William wrote in this letter: To MPI, My childhood disease has finally spread into most parts of my body. By the time you are reading this I have likely passed away for some time now. I am writing this in my hospital bed. Despite the adversity, I cant help but find comfort in my memories of the MPI: little things like the musical insights I received in my lessons, to the warmth of my close friends ZhiYangs hugs, the way Eugenies face lit up when she recognised me in person, and the way Yibo and YiChao looked so happy when taking photos together. These small yet meaningful memories bring much comfort during the last few weeks of my life its weird how the most trivial moments can be the most unforgettable. You may not know this, but around the time of the MPI 2019 Gala I had received news that I had at most a year or so to live. And whilst Im feeling sorry for myself backstage, I cant help but be swept into the happy atmosphere. Everyone laughing and warming up with nervous but exciting energy. I remember that moment like it was yesterday - because thats the day I learnt the importance of enjoying the present over think about things out of our control. Im not just thanking you for the Gala invitation. Im thanking you for without even knowing, reminding me that life is beautiful, teaching me to accept my own mortality and live in the present, for the comfort you guys bring during times difficulty, and most of all thanking you for the cherished memories of learning what it means to be alive to just enjoy the present.
