25.01.2022 A lot of businesses see marketing as a cost (or a nice-to-have), and its often one of the first things to be cut during tough times. We totally understand the need to cut costs, but this type of thinking can be quite limiting. Its a chicken and the egg scenario...... You need new customers so you can spend money on marketing. But you need to spend money on marketing to get new customers! Now this doesnt mean spend money recklessly. BAD marketing is definitely a cost, but GOOD marketing can be one of the best investments you can ever make. Still not convinced? Heres a quick story... During covid, gyms had to completely shut down. Most gyms hunkered down, cut as many costs as possible and tried to ride it out. Club Bunker did the opposite. We created a content and ad strategy that focused on two things: home workouts and supplements. To keep members and followers engaged we shared and sponsored a home workout EVERY single day of lockdown, and ran Facebook ads to their online supplement store (which they made on the fly to adapt to covid). While everyone had gone quiet and cut spending, Club Bunker ramped it up and each day was gaining market share in the minds of the local. When the gym re-opened they had an overwhelming influx of new members, which is still happening as youre reading this! Weve also just launched google AdWords which within 1 day has brought in 3 new clients. Retained members. An influx of new customers. A new revenue stream with online supplement store sales. This is the power of marketing!

Here are the 3 types of content you need Authority content to show youre a credible expert (60%). Add value and share insights to help people solve problems. ... Likability content to show youre fun to work with (30%). Share fun stuff like behind the scenes, people smiling, maybe theres a dog in the office could be anything! Promotional content to promote your business (10%). This content is aimed to generate new business so feel free to brag a bit and post testimonials, a story about how you sold something or even giveaways. Rather than trying to create ‘content’ (which is hard), simply broadcast what you’re already doing. Who did you help this week? What was the last #inspiring conversation you had? What are you doing later today? That’s all content! Ironically, you have more content than you could possibly need, you just need to capture it. It comes down to: 1 Getting in the habit of ‘recognising’ content in the moment. 2 Taking a brief moment to take a #picture and a quick note. 19.01.2022 If your brand was a person, what would they sound like? Nailing your brands voice and messaging is important it needs to be authentic and relevant to your customers. For example if youre in a premium or high-ticket industry, you dont want to be all whacky or clickbaity. Youd want to be sophisticated, professional and insightful.... If youre a pet store or a gym, you can be a bit cheeky and fun. Theres no right or wrong answer, it comes down to your business and your customers. 17.01.2022 The most important thing in marketing (and business in general) is the ability to adapt. This was (and is) especially true during this pandemic. When it started to hit the fan, people freaked out. We made a plan to educate our clients and our audience, to guide them and offer a bit of certainty in an uncertain world.... We focused on creating relevant, valuable and timely content for what they should be doing with their content and marketing. (By the way, we actually do what we tell people to do. Unlike a lot of marketers who just say do this but dont do it themselves!) The result? We had a load of enquiries and actually had to hire someone to keep up with demand! Adaptability is so important for any business but especially in marketing because it changes, literally every day. Keep up or be left out!

17.01.2022 Looking at your ads manager can be confusing Its a sea of information if you dont know what youre looking at, or looking for. Heres the solution...... Focus on the cost per result, and nothing else. Cost per result tells you how much its costing to achieve your objective. For example if you have a post engagement ad, this will be cost per engagement. If its traffic, it will cost per click etc. Decide what youre comfortable with and literally ignore everything else. To make this even easier, heres a few loose benchmark metrics you can use. Engagement - Less than $0.50 per engagement. Traffic - Less than $1.00 - $3.00 per click. Video Views - Less than $0.30 per 10 second view. Lead Ads - This really depends but a ball park under $30 per lead if youre collecting name, email and phone. 14.01.2022 Youre busy putting out consistent content isnt easy. So you either post nothing, or post something kinda crappy to fill up a spot (we dont recommend this!) To make it easier, try a weekly segment. For example, you might share some industry insights every week, do a whats happening this week or maybe even just a brief opinion piece every Monday. If you commit to doing at least 1 segment each week, it makes it easier. Also, you can sponsor that content so even if you...re not posting each day, its going out into the feeds of potential customers all day, every day. Have a think about it what would your customers find the most interesting? Make 1 piece of content a week on that. Mastered Marketing

13.01.2022 The best time to do marketing is actually when you dont need it. Huh? That sounds backwards! Let us explain... If you desperately need customers ASAP, you have a lot of pressure to get instant results. Not only is this very difficult and stressful, it means youll prioritise speed and short term gains over a properly executed plan that will bring lasting results.... Its like trying to get shredded at the gym and want to take shortcuts which will end up hurting your health later. Either that or its just not possible and youre wasting your time. Marketing is critically important, but its not instant. What you need is strategic consistency, not random spurts or short term tunnel vision. If you have a steady amount of customers and youre not desperate, you can put together a proper marketing plan that will have lasting, sustainable results without the pressure of needing to see instant returns. This keeps your pipeline full, grows your brand awareness and maintains your level of comfort. Besides, having more leads than you can handle is always a good problem! (Right now we are literally at capacity but we keep our marketing rolling anyway.) Food for thought!

13.01.2022 Structure and delivery matters when it comes to writing good captions. We know its not always easy to do and it can be a struggle to write catchy captions. That said, here are a few tips: Write a punchy first line. Grab attention right away and set the scene so they know what theyre about to read. If youre stuck, one of the best things to do is ask a question so that some readers might think ooh, thats me!... Use line breaks. Dont just have a huge block of text, people see that and think eek nevermind. Break it up with lines or even use what we call teaser transitions like let me explain... or why does it matter? to keep them hooked. Use emojis and bullet points. Youll see us do this a lot (youre seeing it right now!). It makes it easier to skim read, especially if youre giving quick tips. Ask yourself... "Whats the moral of the story?". Aka, whats the point of this post. Why are you writing it at all, and whats the moral of the story. Its not always easy but as with anything... practice always helps! Mastered Marketing

13.01.2022 The key to social media success is consistency. You cant do it for 2 weeks then take 4 weeks off. You need to constantly share content and be on the platform, ideally every day. Not just from a posting perspective, but to see what your customers are doing, and whats happening in your industry.... 11.01.2022 We really love design so we are guilty of this sometimes too. But if you wait for everything to be just right or have a professional photographer, a perfectly edited video etc... you wont take enough action (if any) and youll get left behind. Remember... Done is better than nothing!

10.01.2022 If you want your content to stand out, the visuals need to grab your attention. We love a sexy photo but sometimes people think thats all it is. You might have an awesome caption that nobody reads! To make sure people actually read and consume your content, try these two things:... 1. Use animations and effects. When something is moving on the image (or video) it catches your eye. 2. Put a piece of text over the image that encourages them to read more. E.g if youre sharing a market update in the caption, put Market Update over the image so people know theres more. We were scrolling through the feed and Mel Robbins had a heading that said Are you a perfectionist? Watch this. And we did! 09.01.2022 A fun person doesnt say hey, Im really fun Just like an expert doesnt say they are an expert. They show it. Instead of shamelessly saying Im the best, call me now (which just wont work), show your expertise by adding value.... One of the best ways to do this is with case studies. Tell a story about your customer, the challenges you overcame, the strategy you used and the result you achieved. This is selling yourself, without selling yourself. Its adding value but establishing authority at the same time. Only an expert would know how to do what you did. So here are three quick tips!... Creating heartwarming stories about whoever you help (could be an animal, a person, a rainforest whatever you do!). If you can, people LOVE a before and after or a #transformation story. Share educational content. A lot of people would gladly #support your cause but they are uninformed. E.g people don’t realise the impact of single-use plastic, cage eggs or the big problems you solve. Share that on social media and then use ads to boost your posts. This will send it to thousands of people who aren’t already following you, allowing you get more #awareness and build a following. Once you’ve done this, here’s how you know if its working... Reach how many individual people saw your brand. Impressions how many times it was seen in total. Engagement Rate the % of those people like/comment/share Number of new followers per month and the follower growth rate Percentage of website traffic that comes from social media. 07.01.2022 As a #nonprofit or #charity, getting donations is super important! It’s a constant battle, but we’ve got three tips to help you increase #donations online. 1 Use ‘dollar labelling’. Rather than simply having a #donate button where the person picks a random figure, have set amounts (like a gift) and show what that actually gets. It’s much more impactful to give a tangible, #meaningful gift rather than a random $10, and you’ll find your average donation will increase. Orange... Sky Laundry does a wonderful job of this. On their website they have $24 provides clean laundry and a shower, $115 provides XYZ etc. They also have one-off and ongoing options. 2 Make donating incredibly easy. It’s surprising how hard it can be to donate to some causes, either because it’s hard to find on their #website or the payment process is challenging. Make sure it’s easy to find on your website, there are a few options to choose from and it’s easy to pay. 3 Share #stories, and promote them. Sharing engaging #content on social media and then boosting it with ads is one of the best ways to get new supporters. 07.01.2022 Planning to run ads? Facebook ads are a fantastic way to grow your business and weve had some great results for our clients. But even for us, they can be frustrating! Weve learned a thing or too, and here are a few tips for when its not working: ... Check Your Offer. Ask yourself...do people actually want what youre offering? If your answer is no, youve already found your problem. This is a common issue people face the offer simply isnt something people want. Check Your Targeting. If you put your offer in front of the wrong people, it will fail! Dont go too broad. Get into the shoes of your customers to know who they are and test multiple audiences to see what works best. Check the Creative. Your text and visuals need to really strike a nerve with your audience, call out their problems to hit a pain point, and then position your offer as the next step. Check the Landing Page. Your landing page not only needs to look great, it needs to have a message match with your ad. (If the landing page content is different to the ad, it will confuse people) If you assess all 4 of these areas, you will have a higher chance of running a winning campaign! 06.01.2022 Want to rank higher on Google? Here are some practical #SEO tips! Fitness is very competitive. SEO is even more competitive. So how the heck did we get our client Club Bunker to #1 on Google for the phrase "Newstead gym"? (Yes position number 1, not just page 1).... Here’s the interesting part... we didn’t really do any traditional SEO tactics on a monthly basis. What we did was optimise the heck out of the #website as much as we could when we created it, and then implemented a #socialmedia and paid traffic campaign. There’s a (slightly controversial) #quote that says SEO isn’t something you do, it’s something that happens when you do everything else right. We tend to agree. If you’re creating useful #content, sharing frequently on social media and running ads, all that will contribute heavily to your #rankings. But that said, your SEO #strategy and setup is SUPER important. Here are a few things you can do right now to improve your SEO and site health Choose a few relevant keywords that you could realistically rank for (eg Newstead gym not just gym) Place those keywords in your page titles, page descriptions, headings and throughout your content. But make it relevant and natural, not spammy or just stuffing keywords (that will backfire). Make your website easy to use, make sure loads quickly and works great on mobile (tip: compressing images is a quick way to make your site faster) Get the basics covered: Fix broken links, have an SSL certificate installed and keep your URLs short (eg not new-page-02849) Give all your images alt tags and descriptions. Delete any duplicate pages or pages you’re not using, then submit your website to Google Search Console for indexing. Create a free Google My Business listing and fill out all the information. This is huge! Once you've done all that, have a content marketing and advertising strategy to drive traffic to your site. 05.01.2022 If you’ve ever gone to #write something and stared at a blank screen, you’ll appreciate the difficulty of #creative copywriting! Not only is copywriting an #art, it varies greatly depending on what you’re writing. In today’s post we wanted to share an important difference between #socialmedia captions and ad copy. With social media, story-telling is great. Obviously stay on topic, but you can waffle a little to build #personality and context, writing casually as if you’re tal...king to a friend (like what you’re reading right now). With #ads, you need to do the opposite. Be incredibly clear, get straight to the point and cut out ANY words that don’t have a purpose. For #Facebook ads it’s also good to use bullet points (or emojis) so they can easily skim/digest what you’re selling. You also need short, concise and benefit-rich #headlines so even if they don’t read anything else they know exactly what it is, why they should care and what to do next. This is even more true with #Google Ads, since you only have a 30 character limit for headlines and 90 characters for descriptions. Make every single character count! It takes skill and patience but well-crafted copy can make such a big difference for your #marketing results. And we haven’t even talked about websites or sales copy yet! Look were really not a fan of hacks and little tricks you can do that might get a small win now, but wont have sustainable results (and may come back to bite you later) Things like buying followers, hashtag spamming, commenting bots and especially cheesy lead gen campaigns.... We see a lot of real estate agents trying to get instant leads, with really click-baity headlines and unrealistic promises. This does two things: 1) The lead quality isnt going to be good. Someone isnt going to hand over their biggest asset and be an engaged lead because you offered a 3 minute instant appraisal 2) It damages your brand. Firstly the messaging comes off as very spammy which hurts your credibility, and it also implies that what you do is easy. Think about this a proper home appraisal takes more than 3 - 15 minutes. And even if you could do it in a few minutes, are you really giving off the perception that you add value? If its that easy, why hire you? 05.01.2022 Is it possible to sell without being salesy? Absolutely, and its insanely effective if you do it right. Heres how... Dont say youre an expert. Just like a fun person doesnt say hey Im really fun. They show it. When youre saying hey Im really good call me now its doing nothing for your brand. SHOW youre an expert with case studies and advice.... Dont actually sell anything. When youre showing expertise but not selling anything, it creates a different perception. It makes people want to come to you because you know what youre talking about and youre not needy. Dont discount yourself. Apple never says 50% discounts on iPhones! Sale on now, come quick!. They just have an awesome product. If you want it, you can buy it. If not, it makes no difference to them. Think like a customer. Its such a simple shift, but if you start seeing your marketing through the eyes of a customer (instead of a business trying to sell something), youll be able to give them content and information they actually want. Answer questions. Setting up a campaign is great, but how do you know if it’s working? Here are a few #metrics you want to look at (we promise not to get too technical!)... Click Through Rate The % of people who see your ad and click it. The higher the better, because it means your ad is resonating with them (aim for at least 1%) Cost Per Conversion How much it costs to get a conversion (e.g a #donation). Average Order Value In this case, the average amount a person donates. Return On Spend The most important! How much money did you make vs spent? Ideally for every $1 you spend on ads, you want $2 or more in donations. If you’ve ever stepped inside an ads manager or analytics platform, it’s like an avalanche of information. Lucky for you, we’ve got a few quick tips for running a #fundraising campaign online! Use Facebook’s built-in fundraising tools to make donating easier. You can also set it up so that when people donate, their friends see it too! ... Set up an ad targeted to people with similar interest to what your organisation does. Make sure it’s SUPER compelling and attention-grabbing. Retarget your existing database by using ‘Custom Audiences’ on Facebook. These people will then see ads on social media, and will be more receptive to donating seeing as they’ve already supported you in the past. If you can, use ‘dollar labelling’ to make donating more compelling (e.g $10 can feed a child for a day, vs just a random $10 figure). Once this is done, keep an eye on the campaign and tweak it accordingly. You might ask how do you know it’s working? Great question!
