08.01.2022 As everyone knows, I struggle saying goodbye to anyone who has been part of the MKM family. I know this day has been coming for the last year, but it is still hard to believe that one of my foundation Mentors - who started with me 5 years ago when MKM had just begun - is about to leave us and return home to Canada. Sabina* has been one of my most faithful, trusted and hardworking Mentors. Her level of professionalism and her commitment to our students and Mentoring have been ...unparalleled. Many of our students started their Mentoring journey with Sabina and remained with her until they graduated. Whenever I needed someone to dig a little deeper and help us with more students, Sabina helped us with the heavy-lifting. She has braved the new ATAR system and kept abreast of all the curriculum requirements in both the IB and QCE system - no small feat. Now she begins her own journey of becoming a Dentist and I wish her nothing but happiness and success. MKM has been through a lot of changes since its genesis and it is hard to imagine MKM now without Sabina being a part of it. 2021 will feel a little empty without you being here, Sabina. I would like to take the opportunity to recognize the outstanding performance of two individuals of 2019 in particular: Mentor of the Year: Theodore Lee and Student of the Year: Joe Fuhrmann Mentor of the Year: Theodore Lee... Theo has worked with MKM for almost 3 years. In that time he has established himself as a Mentor who is renowned for his ability to connect with his students across culture, background, language and ability. He teaches his students as unique individuals and caters for their learning needs in a way that demonstrates genuine care and concern for their growth and development as a 'whole' person, not just their academic performance alone. Theo exemplifies the core values of MKM, understands the responsibility of our role as educators and believes in the connection we have as Mentors. I am so proud to work with such a passionate and driven educator, an educator whose students lives are irrevocably transformed having had him as a Learning Mentor. Student of the Year: Joe Fuhrmann It is one of the greatest rewards and joys of being a teacher; to watch your students grow and succeed in ways they never thought achievable. Joe is one such student. More notably, he rose not only to become a top achieving English student, but he did so with humility and modesty. His outstanding achievements are bolstered by the reputation he has earned himself as a student and young man who is also kind and compassionate and a positive role-model to others.
