25.01.2022 Last post for today everyone, With our grading having been set out to fall in May, August and December each year, I have now decided to change the months. From ...next year (2021) our gradings will be moved forward by 1 month to April, July and November this will help avoid December because of the heat. Those students that graded with us last December would remember that, the grading day had a temperature of 39 degrees. This is far too hot to expect students not to run out of puff and the risk is too great for heat exhaustion. This should have been something that I addressed earlier this year but with 2020 being what it has, I’ve unfortunately had a lot more pressing issues. Hopefully December this year won’t be as hot for everyone Master instructor Trevor Sayers

18.01.2022 Good afternoon everyone with our summer grading only 7 weeks away everyone needs to be making sure that their grading requirements are met. Junior students (Whi...te belts-Yellow Belt/green tips)keep working on improving your techniques this will help with your techniques in your patterns. Senior belts (Green belts and above). Pattern requirements will need to be met. Those students on the current multiple patterns keep working on the lower patterns that you need to demonstrate and make sure your rank pattern is close to spot on. Those students on the new single pattern requirements keep working on your rank pattern making sure it is spot on by numbers and in your own time, remember as you only have one pattern to demonstrate it is expected to be close to perfect. Grading invitations will be given out in 3 weeks time. Master instructor Trevor Sayers

17.01.2022 2021 Grading dates. Good afternoon everyone, Well with grading fast approaching it might be a good idea to let you all know I have come up with our adjusted gra...ding dates for 2021. Remember these dates are adjusted so that we have our gradings outside of the possible hot weather that comes along in December. I will also let you know how many training days are in between gradings to better inform everyone. St Matthews Catholic school Grading 1:- Autumn grading Saturday 17th April 2021 (51 training days) Grading 2: - Winter grading Saturday 14th August 2021 (67 training days) Grading 3: - Spring grading Saturday 13th November 2021 (51 training days) I hope this helps everyone plan for gradings next year. There will be some big gradings coming up next year for some of you, with so many coming through to the higher ranks next year. Master Instructor Trevor Sayers

15.01.2022 This is so true, throughout my time training I have lost count of the amount of students that I have either trained with, instructed with or instructed. It always amazes me as to how many people get to junior, Yudanja or 1st Dan black belt and then drop out. Thinking that they have their black belt which means they are a black belt for life. It doesn’t work like that, you are only as good as your last training session and if that was 10 years prior then you may as well say you’re a white belt. Remember the martial arts journey is a path of continuous learning, I’m still learning.

14.01.2022 With grading only 8 weeks to go, NOW is a good time to really start focusing on what will be needed not only at grading but also in 4 weeks time when grading in...vites are handed out. Remember there are many factors that go towards the decision to invite a student to grade. The higher the rank the more factors are taken into account in the decision to invite students to grade, IT’S not a given or a right to grade. Master instructor Trevor Sayers
