COVID-19 limitations on the numbers and ways people can 'gather' in a space, or restrictions on where people can travel, have meant businesses have had to rethink their approach to induction and training for their workers. These changes have had a positive effect across multiple industries. 16.01.2022 Last week, a small business south of Brisbane was fined $40,000 for poor supervision of a worker. The hearing, held at Beenleigh Magistrates Court, deemed the company failed to ensure the health and safety of its workers, resulting in exposure to risk of death or serious injury. In particular, the defendant failed to adequately supervise an employee. The worker had only been employed for two months, and had only been shown how to perform a similar task once prior. ... Investigations by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland revealed the company did not have any documented procedures or Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for the particular task. So, do you know what your WHS obligations are?
