I always have fingers and toes crossed when I get the opportunity to compete in International. Of the 4 times I’ve competed I’ve only had this beat once S/O to the Manea Pacifica drummers for hitting this beat composed by the Ministry of Cultural Development Cook Islands. They bring home (Raro) to home (Australia) when they hit this I also changed my brother-in-law @lx_nicholls choreo to to this to add some Jasmine flavour, forgive me bro See you all in a week and a half! #cookisland #cookislands #maneapacifica #maneauraacademy

14.01.2022 Massive shout out to my sis Ernestina Bonsu Maro for giving me the opportunity to share what we do in Manea Pacifica & the Manea Ura Academy & also the importance of connecting to our roots. Ever so grateful!!! Besides believing in dispersing our culture on a global scale to highlight to the world that yes we do exist and yes our culture will be in existence in the next 50-100 years, being involved in our Cook Islands Culture has kept many of our kids off of the streets. If ...you are close to Raven and I you would know we talk about financials financials financials (business start-ups, first car purchase tips, employment & self-employment income etc) and also the physical and mental well-being of the body.. all from our past experiences. Achieving your absolute best in all that you do is common talk in Manea and quite frankly we are with our team more than we are with family and friends. Seeing our Manea youth branch into the big world (purchasing their first cars, moving out from home) is what we need to see more of in our wider communities. If we are infusing this kind of talk into cultural groups and sit as a living example for our kids, we will see those Pacific Island Youth Offending statistics decrease. It isn't just a matter of preventing them from going out on weekends with their friends by getting them to attend dance practices etc They will come if there are other interests there. I wish I had touched more on this in my interview.

09.01.2022 Grateful to have girls who take on a responsibility that isn’t theirs. Many many more to name but I’m thanking you all not only on Manea’s behalf but also on behalf of my future off spring and our people. Thank you for helping us preserve our Culture

04.01.2022 When going through enrolments for our beginners ura technique courses I recognised a familiar name, my niece Stellalee (Stellalee’s grandmother and my mother are sisters). This is Stella’s Week 1 progress and first time being trained in ura. Well done on sponging all the knowledge and techniques in the Week 1 module! I hope you decide to enter a dance competition one day like myself and your aunties @elizabeth_terepita and @niipita. You are a natural and have so much potential! #proudaunty

01.01.2022 There was an open discussion on my cousin @lydiasimonis post about Ori Tahiti and Cook Islands Ura and I have to admit there is so much our people don’t know about Ori Tahiti. Im not afraid to admit I was in the same boat until I became more open and exchanged knowledge with others. I once thought Tahitians danced with their legs apart and were able to move their shoulders... how wrong and ignorant I was! One must understand the muscles required to execute techniques and I c...an tell you that although our techniques may seem similar to the eye, our muscle engagement is quite the opposite. Please observe and better yet try the cross exchange between Ori Tahiti and Cook Islands Ura. You will only realise until you try. I personally find Ura a little more difficult due to the limitations we have and my students who were originally ori dancers (now learning ura) can tell you the same thing! Ori Tahiti however is innovative and very technical (they take their techniques up a notch with creativity). To all our Cook Island people, please take the time to learn more before making assumptions like I did. Both cultures are equally as beautiful as one another. Furthermore our ancestors came from Tahiti Thank you to the beautiful @atalinamarie for this Ori Tahiti basics demo! EDIT: For my Maukean family as I wasn't specific in which Ori I was referring to. I assumed most would understand I was referring to Ori Tahiti (my mistake)
