Historically this was performed before battle as a scare tactic and after battle when returning to the village as a celebration dance (meke). 23.01.2022 Saravina Nasilivata hailing from Naqara, Naitasiri vasu Daku, Tailevu of Kindly Gifted Creations has joined MARAMA this year as one of the local iTaukei businesses that will be donating delicious custom baked cupcakes as favours for our guests. Saravina is a self-taught baker who is in the health field, currently studying a Bachelor of Nursing at QUT and when she is not baking, working or studying , she is heavily involved with mission and charity work with ‘Shalom Warriors’.... Saravina shares that baking is very therapeutic for her. She started baking for her family, then friends, extending to church and work colleagues and early this year decided to share her gifting and talent with the greater community. Based in Forest Lake, she bakes cakes, cupcakes and loves putting grazing boxes together. Vinaka Saravina for joining MARAMA this year. Marks of Mana explores the sacred tatau practise of Papuan Makmak, Moko Kauae, Fijian Veiqia, and the Samoan Malu. The documentary gave valuable insight into the journey of several Pasifika women who are reclaiming the art of tatau in memory of their ancestors and highlighted the importance of honouring and carrying on cultural... traditions to ensure that they are not lost through the generations. We were so excited for this event, numerous late night rehearsals, so many costume ideas and such pride in showcasing our Fijian culture while supporting our Melanesian West Papua sisters and brothers in their fight for justice! Born in Australia to a Fijian mother and Australian father, Victoria is a self-taught designer who started Loloma Studio while living and working in London as a civil drafter. Loloma Studio was created to help appreciate, share and cultivate Pasifika culture through modern wall art, maps and home decor.
