24.01.2022 RFS Responses are not always to fires. Matcham-Holgate crew assisted Fire & Rescue crews with this horse rescue in Matcham. We're pleased to say the horse "Naaman Flaunt It" is in good health.

24.01.2022 More fantastic dancers at the Six String Brewery event. Hopefully you taught Jenni and Rob a few fast moves! Thanks everyone who came along and gave generously to help raise funds for our local Matcham Holster RFS.

24.01.2022 Matcham-Holgate RFS Brigade is managing a Hazard Reduction in the bushland within Katandra Cottage at 42 Katandra Rd Holgate on Tuesday 1st Sep. Please be aware that the prescribed burn will generate smoke within the valleys. There will also be a number of RFS units from neighbouring Brigades on scene throughout the day to support us in safely managing the Hazard Reduction Works.

21.01.2022 SOMETIMES IT'S HARD TO SEE FIRE Matcham-Holgate Rural Fire Brigade is extremely grateful for the generous donation of a FLIR K1 Thermal Imaging Camera to our brigade by Fire Response Pty Ltd. The camera will aid our volunteer firefighters with making the extinguishing of fires more safe and efficient. A huge thanks to Nick and the team at Fire Response Pty Ltd for your generous support.

21.01.2022 FACT: Grass fires can move 3 times as fast as a bush fire, starting easily and spreading quickly. Grass fires will pose a risk this Fire Season so make sure you have cleared the areas around your home. Please comment any questions you have and we’ll happily get back to you.

19.01.2022 FACT: There will never be as many fire trucks as there are houses. Do not depend on a fire truck being available at your home. But if you and your home are well prepared, you stand a better chance of surviving.

18.01.2022 A very successful Hazard Reduction completed at Katandra Cottage today. Thanks to Brisbane Waters, Berkley Vale, Lake Munmorah, The Bays, and Empire Bay Brigades for their assistance with conducting the burn. Matcham-Holgate Brigade had both trucks and a crew of 13 on scene. Included in the crew was Murat Kivilcim, Sally Parkes, Reagen Marsh and Margaret Williams, all experiencing their first time on the fireground after recently completing their training. Thank you to all for your great efforts today.

18.01.2022 Welcome to our new members who joined us yesterday evening for an introduction to our crew, the Fire Station and an insight into our busy maintenance night. All to be well-equipped when we get fire calls!

18.01.2022 With COVID, comes a gratitude that we aren’t seeing the same summer as the last. Here’s a throw back to the members of our brigade that were awarded with citations for fighting the 2019 Australian Fires. Thank you. #matchamholgaterfs #rfs

14.01.2022 Thanks Graham King. Thank you for all the work you've done in your 11 years at the RFS and continue to do for the Matcham Holgate Community. Come and join us as we take a look at some of his RFS memories and into his life of nature, sound, wine and eye creasing smiles. PART THREE... 3/4 See more

12.01.2022 Ever wondered how fast a grass fire can move? With the @Bureau of Meteorology predicting a warm and wet spring there is likely to be good grass and crop growth across NSW. With this growth will come the increased risk of grass fires. Maintain your property, be prepared and have a plan.

11.01.2022 Great turn out for monthly maintenance. It's important to keep all the equipment on the truck in top condition to ensure its ready when we need it. We maintain familiarity with the equipment and where it's located to speed up access in an emergency. Staying COVID safe at the same time.

11.01.2022 NSW RFS is undertaking research into people’s experiences of the 2019-20 bush fires in NSW. If you're interested in sharing any views or experiences, please see contact links below.

09.01.2022 Locals dig deep to raise $26,400 for firies' families In true Christmas spirit, local families have donated $26,400 in one day to help the families of the two fire fighters, Andrew O’Dwyer and Geoff Keaton of Horsley Park who died tragically on 19 December. We are astounded, said Robert James, Captain of the local Matcham-Holgate Rural Fire Brigade. The people of our community have been incredibly generous. Everyone from a little boy who donated his $5 tooth fairy money t...o teenagers dipping into their own savings to families who gave hundreds of dollars. Members of Matcham-Holgate RFS Brigade voted that all proceeds from the Brigade’s usual annual fund raising would be given to the families of the two men. The collection was organised by the Brigade and held at Erina Fair on Saturday 21 December, 2019. The funds will now be disbursed by way of the dedicated assistance fund for the families that has been set up by NSW Rural Fire Service. A great result and for a very good cause, said George Slennett, President of the Brigade. We want to thank every individual who so generously gave money, and for their kind words of appreciation to us as volunteer members of the RFS.

09.01.2022 Good rains, good growth. The recent wet weather continues to provide ideal growing conditions for grass lands, particularly west of the divide. High fuel loads ...are being recorded in the Riverina, Dubbo, Forbes, Inverell and Coonabarabran areas. This may prove problematic in the coming months. See more

07.01.2022 Informative overview from ABC on the development of Gospers mega-fire from last season, and associated firefighting efforts used to manage the blaze and protect assets as much as possible. Matcham-Holgate Brigade was significantly involved with this campaign fire effort last summer as it was not only knocking on the door of Sydney, but also the Central Coast. Let's hope we don't see anything similar this summer...

06.01.2022 Matcham Holgate brigade responded to an illegal pile burn today. Yes we have had a lot of rain and it doesn’t feel like summer, but.... During the Bushfire season (October to April) no fires are allowed unless you have a permit issued by the RFS. Please make our job easier by checking the RFS website for information on how to obtain a fire permit. And check the Council website for information regarding what restrictions are in place for pile burning.... Happy New Year to all - stay safe.
