Over 350 works created by the local residents and workers of Lane Cove will be featured. This exhibition is being presented by Lane Cove Council as part of Love Where You Live Lane Cove Exhibition: 25 August to 2 September 2016 Opening night: 24 August from 5.30pm at Gallery Lane Cove... Invitation instructions can be found at http://www.matchboxprojects.com/PeopleMakePlacesLaneCoveIns PDF download of instructions can be printed from... http://www.matchboxprojects.com//MatchBoxProjects_People_M Introducing Two of the People Make Places - Lane Cove matchboxes we have received to date: Left: "ONE HEART" One heart with one people and one community. The opening in the heart is about all people of the world from all nations being embraced into one heart. It represents a vision of Lane Cove as a community that can be in oneness and harmony, and everybody being excepted. The heart and one is actually the emblem of the Shinnyo-en Buddhist Temple that is located in Lane Cove which serves the needs of members and their communities and holds a special place in the heart of the creator. This really resonates with us as "People Make Places" is all about bringing diverse members of localities together to celebrate their communities, all of whom open their hearts to consider their own sense of place to create and collaborate with us on this work! Right: ALMOST A LOCAL (village, coffee, green and bush space) This matchbox was created by someone who enjoys working in Lane Cove but whom lives elsewhere hence the title Almost a local. The different green shapes and textures in the background represent the bushlands around Lane Cove. The water layer reflects upon the beautiful Woodford Bay and the houses celebrate the village feel of Lane Cove and also the extent to which the homes of the area are sprawling and quite wonderful and so close to the city. On the wooden panel created to depict the Plaza is a coffee cup as Lane Cove has so many great places to enjoy amazing coffee. Perched in the tree is one of the slightly evil famous magpies that inhabit the plaza that swoop our matchbox creator at every chance. The cascade of gum leaves illustrates the gum tree pattern in the plaza and the plentiful gum trees throughout the region. On the weekend we explored the local bushland and passed by Woodford Bay on our trip down Lane Cove River. We have to admit it looks like a very special place. It seems that many other locals agree about having good coffee shops in the area every third person we meet in Lane Cove recommends a different great café!

Dad's box at the end (right) provides the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow which he shares with his family! 1.Mum loves walking, looking at the view and meeting people. 2. Everything big sis does is all about music - singing, playing in the Lane Cove Youth Orchestra and dancing at the Lane Cove Dance Academy. 3. Little sis likes playing sport with friends - including being part of her school's netball club. 4. Dad loves playing for the Lane Cove football club - presenting local mateship and support which are some of the blessings Lane Cove provides.
