25.01.2022 Do you like beetroot? Fresh beetroot tastes vastly different to what you find in a supermarket tin. It’s not as sweet. We sell it fresh from the ground as a root vegetable. You can dice it and roast at home. Fantastic in salads cold or roasted warm for dinner too. ... You can also eat the leaves in your salad making the entire vegetable edible. It’s a vibrant & fun vegetable to add to your shop! It’s grown right here at our home farm in our awesome Cudgen red soil!

Trish buys much of her fresh produce from us & was gearing up for a big blues festival however as well know this was cancelled at the last minute. 24.01.2022 Meet Doug Doug is 77 years young. He’s a stalwart of the Cudgen community. Sweet potato farmer, corn farmer, watermelon farmer & a mad Sydney City Roosters fan. You can buy his corn & sweet potatoes fresh from his trailer ’Dougs Cow’ on Tweed Coast road. I chatted to Doug today as he delivered some fresh corn to our farm. I asked him how many years he’s been farming for.... His answer was simply forever. He said he’s tried to retire a few times but is repeatedly drawn b...ack to his family farm & business alongside his sons Jim & Steve & daughter Kim and until recently his grandson Lachie Sprott. Our Cudgen community is built with the strongest layers of respect & solidarity. It’s an tightly knit web of generational families, shared knowledge & great friends who feel like family. These relationships came first and it’s why our farming community is so strong in every sense of the word. We help each other, we borrow, we share. As Doug lifted crates of corn off his truck today I was reminded of just how long he’s always been ‘around’. It sure feels like forever too Doug! Thanks for your corn delivery today Doug and thank you for being a pillar of our Cudgen farming community.

23.01.2022 Here’s a face we all miss so much. For those who don’t know, this is Mate. He’s the founder of our store, it was his baby, his idea & he’s also the Mate in Mate & Matt’s. Robert Neil he would later go onto say are his medical names - not many people used those names. An absolute true legend, the most incredible & kind gentleman you’d ever meet. We lost him from our lives almost 10yrs ago and we miss him every single day. So here’s to you Mate, just look at the seed you pl...anted now twenty years later. An icon in the local community & a bustling hub of beautiful local produce. Stand proud up there. The legacy lives on.

20.01.2022 Say Hi to Tom Prichard & Damien King Tom joined the family business a few years ago after a career in the financial sector. He became the manager we didn’t have but needed. He is also the brains behind our delivery service & initiated the concept and drove it to great successes - this again was taken to new heights during COVID. Turns out you guys like us bringing our produce to your kitchen benches each week! When Tom isn’t at work he can be found on a golf course or wit...h his wife Tara and kids Leo & Ashlyn. Also doesn’t mind the odd beer! Damien has been with us since the very beginning. Mate & Matt’s opened to the public in November 2001 and Damien has been with us since 2001. He treats our business as if it’s his own - and that’s really the ideal manager isn’t it. He worked alongside Mate in those early years everyday.... there was quite a lot of strawberry & grape throwing but they also did the odd bit of work when they could fit it in. Like us all, he felt Mate’s loss in 2010 deeply too after spending so much time together. Apart from a small year long hiatus in the UK - Damien has been a fiercely loyal & well respected employee. We hope to have him for the next 20 years too. Damo lives for his dog Lenny. Loves camping and having a beer with his mates. These two lead the Mate & Matt’s team everyday & we are grateful and appreciate the work they do. Well, he’s started his project. ‘The Book’ is happening. A collection of images that preserve the rich agricultural history of Cudgen. There’s some urgency now, as development is creeping in. We are seeing red dirt being traded for concrete all around us. Tristam’s effort will be to capture this moment in time. The now. 14.01.2022 Cudgen Road Farms is the commercial production side to Mate & Matt’s producing around 2 million kilos of sweet potatoes each year. It’s the big shed out the back, the tractors you might pass on the road and the trucks towing trailer loads of sweet potatoes back to our shed! National Agriculture Day 2020 - bridging the gap between the farmer and their community.
