25.01.2022 Did you know that by the age of 85, one in seven women in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer? This month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our breast care team have been taking every opportunity to remind women and men to check their breasts, with Mater Breast and Endocrine surgeon Dr Heidi Peverill explaining the importance of checking your breasts regularly AND why it's important to become familiar with your breasts before and after pregnancy changes your body. Find out how to check your breasts properly and what to look for at http://mater.li/BreastCheck

24.01.2022 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a time to remember all of those who have lost their lives to this disease. Natalie Stevens lost a courageous 19 year battle with breast cancer in 2015. Each year since, Remembering Nat has hosted a special lunch event to honour Nats memory and raise funds for Mater Foundation. This year, proceeds from the event will support the MaterQUT Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) Breast Cancer Biobank. 22.01.2022 Today, 8 May, is #WorldOvarianCancerDay. For over 1500 Australian women, 2020 will forever be known as the year I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Tragically, two-thirds of these women wont survive. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are so hard to recognise, so often the cancer is detected too late.... These statistics are frightening, but whats more alarming is that they havent changed in almost 20 years. Support Mater today to help our dedicated researchers, who are working right now on improving treatments and survival rates in women with ovarian cancer for future generations. Donate today at https://mater.li/makeadifference

15.01.2022 Did you know that in Australia, more than half of diagnosed breast cancers are detected in self-checks?* It is so important to regularly check for any changes in your body to aid early detection. Women of all ages are encouraged to check their breasts at least once a month. Things to look out for are any changes in shape, colour and skin changes such as swelling or dimpling of the breast. Be sure to check the entire breast area, including the armpit, both standing upright and... lying down. 13.01.2022 Mater has partnered with Queensland University of Technologys Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation to establish a breast cancer biobank to better support Queensland researchers and ultimately improve the outcomes for breast cancer patients. The biobank, unique in Australia, involves surplus donated breast tissue from Mater patients when they undergo surgery being transported to researchers within the hour. Working on live tissue greatly improves the quality and scope of their experiments, with the aim to develop personalised treatment options for breast cancer patients. https://mater.li/biobank #Mater #biobank
