06.01.2022 Given the rapidly evolving situation around COVID-19, we wanted to get this edition of the magazine out as quickly as possible. As such, we are trialing a new digital version. This quarter, we focus on Non-Destructive Testing, which has been a catalyst in the progress of industry. We also have a round-up of the highly successful MISE2020 conference, which was held in Melbourne in February. Griffith University in south east Queensland is featured in the University Spotlight, while our Women in Industry profile is Dr Cathy Foley (Chief Scientist at the CSIRO), and our CMatP profile is Professor Ivan Cole (Enabling Capability Platform Director for Advanced Manufacturing and Fabrication at RMIT University). We hope you enjoy the magazine! https://issuu.com/mater//ma_mag_april_2020_final.v2_medium

02.01.2022 Our NSW Branch has organized an IP webinar for 13 April! Intellectual property (IP) can come in many forms. Granted IP rights can be crucial for businesses to protect the creations of employees, which could be exploited commercially, either directly in a market or via a licensing agreement. However, IP is not restricted solely to commercial entities and is becoming an increasingly important aspect in academic circles, especially given the rise in increased collaboration between the private and academic sectors - blurring the line between academic and industrial research. https://www.linkedin.com//materials-australia_nsw-webinar-
01.01.2022 As everyone is aware, we are in an unprecedented time. Our daily lives are being changed and challenged by the requirements of the national and international community to manage the impact of the COVID-19 virus. Materials Australia has been following this rapidly changing landscape over the past week and, following discussion with our Executive team, it has been decided to postpone all state and national activities (including visits, meetings and seminars) until we receive gu...idance from the Federal Government and the Chief Medical Officer that Australia can return to business as usual. In the meantime, we will continue to work to bring you NANO2020 (under review), MAMAS2020 (at a postponed date), and CAMS2020. The organizing committees of each conference are working via Zoom and Webex platforms to meet and plan for Materials Australias future. Our state branches will explore means of providing you membership experiences via electronic media and non-contact means over this period; Materials Australia will ensure that we are still working to keep you informed and up-to-date. Please watch your e-mail, our website and social media platforms for announcements about our online technical program, and the progress of our planned conferences. We wish all our members and supporters the best of health for you and your loved ones at this difficult time. On behalf of Materials Australia. Regards, Paul Plater CMatP National President
