13.01.2022 FRIDAY FLASHBACK: Paying tribute to Sister Mary Borromeo McGrath. Sister Mary Borromeo remained at the Rockhampton Mater until 1937 and then transferred to Mackay where she remained for 40 years. Her first job in Mackay was establishing the X-ray department. 12.01.2022 FRIDAY FLASHBACK: Sr Marie Riddel was born in Wynnum on Brisbane’s bayside and was educated as a boarder at The Range Convent High School. Marie Riddel trained as a nurse at the Rockhampton Mater, completing her training in 1963. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1963 and worked at the Bundaberg Mater before returning to the Rockhampton Mater to complete her midwifery training in 1967. Sister Marie became deputy matron at the Mater before transferring to Mackay as theatre s...upervisor. Next came eight years as director of nursing at the Rockhampton Mater between 1977 and 1985 and a year in Melbourne working in the intensive care unit at the Mercy Private Hospital. 12.01.2022 Today we celebrate Mercy Day, the anniversary of the day on which the founder of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley, established the House of Mercy in Baggot Street, Dublin in 1827. Mercy Day is a time for us to pause and reflect on the true meaning of mercy. Each interaction, whether with a colleague or patient, presents an opportunity to demonstrate mercy in action and continue the traditions of the Sisters of Mercy.
