23.01.2022 Coinciding with International Gynaecological Awareness day, we spoke with Dr Nisha Jagasia, Gynaecological Oncologist who shared the importance of women understanding the warning signs of gynaecological cancers. Did you know gynaecological cancers are the third most common cancer type in women? Dr Jagasia said she sees approximately 70 new cases of confirmed or suspected gynaecological cancer per month. Unfortunately, some of these cancers present at advanced stages becaus...e they can go undetected for some time due to many women being unaware of the symptoms associated with gynaecological cancer," Dr Jagasia said. 15.01.2022 We first met Ayu when she was pregnant with her second baby suffering terrible hyperemesis and was very unwell. We are pleased to share that recently she has welcomed a beautiful healthy baby boy, Milo who is absolutely adored especially by his big sister Mila Ayu says once Milo was born her symptoms disappeared and she is now feeling so much better and able to keep food down. The gorgeous family departed Mater Mothers' Private Brisbane and had a two day stay at Emporium Hotel before returning home. 06.01.2022 Aldrick and Ruiza have spent the last few years travelling with their six-year-old daughter Millie. After settling down in Springfield they decided it was time to grow their familymuch to Millies delight With dad Aldrick being a nurse at Mater Private Hospital Springfield, having their baby at Mater Mothers Private Brisbane was an easy decision for the family. They also decided to take up our Caring Continues option and spend two night stay at the nearby Emporium Hotel ...South Bank. As we have travelled with Millie quite a lot she is very used to hotels so it was the perfect place for the two to meet. Plus Millie loved swimming with her dad in the rooftop pool. In 2018, this little fighter experienced a stroke immediately after birth in Rockhampton and was rushed to Mater Mothers Neonatal Critical Care Unit in Brisbane by air for urgent treatment. After suffering a second stroke in December 2019, Hank was left with more damage to the left side of his body and moderate cerebral palsy. Look at him now! ... This determined two year old continues to keep in touch with our team at Mater Mothers for regular check-ups and is making great progress in his recovery. Hank has just started therapy riding sessions to help with his core strength and is loving his little pony. He also loves helping Daddy work on the farm and is saying a few words, cheeky as ever. Hank has an amazing support network at home in Rockhampton with the help of a fantastic team of paediatricians, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists among many others. Were seeing great results, including Hank now being able to walk unaided. We are so grateful every day of the care Hank received from day one at MaterI still believe if it wasnt for them, he definitely wouldnt be here today," said Cass and Aaron (Hanks parents). We would like to acknowledge the wonderful teams who work around the clock taking care of Mater’s tiniest patients. ... We see nearly 2 000 families come to our hospitals each year, some will only need to stay the night where as others can be here for months.
