25.01.2022 Our media release on breech vaginal birth. http://www.couriermail.com.au//e543776584c7d47fa0dedf1f3d5

20.01.2022 ".. midwives unfortunately often say that they feel powerless to either intervene to change the way care is provided by other healthcare providers. They also oft...en felt pressured to make a decision by another professional.Alternatively they may feel that the mother's expressed wishes are overridden by organisational requirements of the hospital during the birth," Professor Gamble said. "If a midwife feels that she can't do anything about these situations, then these can produce feelings of stress which can escalate." Thanks Jenny Gamble, Teresa Walsh and our ABC for highlighting this dreadful state of affairs, and to everyone who participated in this important research.http://www.abc.net.au//midwives-ptsd-traumatic-bir/7885616 "

19.01.2022 Latest antenatal recommendations released by the World Health Organisation.

19.01.2022 The article in the Courier Mail newspaper today about the need for continuity of care in our maternity system. Although the article doesn't get into much detail, it outlines why we need change and how the control needs to be given back to mothers regarding their choices in childbirth and the need for transparency of all information and options available.

18.01.2022 In Western Australia (and globally), providing culturally sensitive maternity care is key.

18.01.2022 This may seem like common sense to most women and even care providers, but time and time again we still hear and see birth environments which are highly medicalised and described by women as scary.

18.01.2022 One of the biggest decisions a woman will make is where & under who s care will she give birth. This decision can have a huge impact on what course her birth may take.

17.01.2022 Please share this post!!! There was an article out from NZ yesterday about midwifery led care being less safe than OB care (but it fails to acknowledge it's the lack of OBs staffed after hours that are the problem- as most babies come at night, when they're not around and makes it difficult for consultation/referral). Here is the article which clarified it...BUT, Drs have used the original article to take to media and claim midwifery led care is unsafe (even though the latest Lancet report says the contrary and OBs have a culture of disregard for women's bodies and also a culture of "too much, too soon").

17.01.2022 The National Framework for Health Services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Families has been launched. It provides a guide for culturally... appropriate maternal health care, pregnancy care and early childhood setting children and families up for better health throughout their lives. 14.01.2022 Birth outcomes determined by care providers...

13.01.2022 Is our maternity system a reflection of our own lack of effort to fight for better care? It seems a multi-faceted approach is needed. Making noise- at local, state and federal level, being educated, talking to friends and family about what we need in birth, choosing care providers who are supportive of a woman-centred approach to birth. A maternity care revolution. Exactly.

10.01.2022 Worth fighting for.

09.01.2022 Women are taking back childbirth.

07.01.2022 Took long enough but finally the information is starting to flow.

05.01.2022 "We carry the future of our species in our bodies. We are divine. Magic. Biological. The alchemy of birth. Yet we are told from a very young age that our bodies... are not to be trusted. That we should cross our legs and purse our lips. Don't ask for it. And yet, we are only prized for our beauty, not for what we can accomplish. Let this be a reminder, that we are the future. We are divine. We are biological. We are art. We are science. The alchemy of birth." -pomegranateandseeds #pregnancy #women #birth #birthwithoutfear See more

03.01.2022 This is what we are fighting for. Truly mother centred, continuity of care that comes from an informed choice we make based on ALL options being available to us

01.01.2022 "We hear lots of talk about the importance of providing women-centred care, but to provide this type of care we need to hear from women exactly what this means ...to them. It’s not just about bringing a baby into the world safely, because women matter too. It is vital that women are in the driving seat of their birth, that they are in control and that their choices are respected. Women need good balanced information to make truly informed decisions. All women should receive kind and compassionate care. A women’s birth experience will stay with her for life and impacts on her identity as a mother, family life and society as a whole. Whilst we are lucky to have a maternity service that meets the physical needs of women and their babies we need to ensure that a women’s maternity care meets both her mental and emotional needs too, as both equally as important.
