11.01.2022 For many people, the festive season is an exciting time to connect with others and celebrate. But for others, it can be the most stressful time of the year. Being mindful can be an effective way to cope with holiday stress. Try to bring your focus back to where you are, slow your breathing down or try a progressive muscle relaxation exercise. Incorporating breathing and relaxation exercises, practising mindfulness or yoga are great coping strategies to manage emotions ...that may get stirred up around this time of year. As you plan for the year ahead, try to come up with positive and achievable goals that contribute to making you feel positive, healthy and fulfilled and give you a great sense of achievement. Remember, if you’re feeling alone or lonely, it’s important to reach out and talk to someone. The Mater Wellness Centre is closed from 17 December 2020 to 11 January 2021. If you are looking for counselling and support services during this time, call Open Arms 24/7 on 1800 011 046 or Lifeline 13 11 14. See more

11.01.2022 It is PTSD AWARENESS DAY: 27.06.2020 Over 1 million people in Australia have PTSD. Unfortunately many people don't realise they have PTSD and therefore don't seek treatment. It’s important to recognise the symptoms: Re-living the traumatic event through distressing, unwanted memories, nightmares and/or flashbacks. Avoiding reminders of the traumatic event, including activities, places, people, thoughts or feelings ... Negative thoughts and feelings such as fear, anger, guilt, or feeling flat a lot of the time. Feeling wound-up, trouble sleeping or concentrating, feeling angry or irritable, taking risks, being easily startled, and/or being constantly on the lookout for danger. Effective treatment is available to help you manage these symptoms. Give us a call to find out about our evidence-based group therapy programs See more
