22.01.2022 Positive messaging during these challenging times couldnt be more to the point as expressed by our Senior Field Officer (and legendary nice guy) Damien McVeigh. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You cant drink from an empty cup!!! Self-care encourages you to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself so that you can transmit the good feelings to others. You cannot give to others what you dont have yourself.... While some may misconstrue self-care as selfish, its far from that. When you pay adequate attention to your well-being, youre not considering your needs alone. Youre reinvigorating yourself so that you can be the best version of yourself for the people around you. Everyone around you also benefits from the renewed energy and joy you exhibit. Theres only one of you and you need to be the best you for yourself and your important relationships!! #selfcarematters #selfcare #mentalhealth #wellbeing #checkyourself #beforeyouwreckyourself #mentalwellness #mentalwellbeing #mentalhealth #wellbeing #mateshelpingmates #suicideawareness #suicideprevention

15.01.2022 How do you chill-out over a weekend? MATES in Construction W.A Youth Ambassador & FIFO Construction worker Sam Clarke Racing #36 chills out with his MATES at Barbagallo Raceway Waneroo, Western Australia. After a 2 year hiatus, the track came alive on Sunday, with Sam opening up the throttle on his beloved #36 motorbike....check out that incredible lean captured by Innesphotografix-John Innes.... Robert Clarke (Sams dad) and #1fanclub ticket holder, built Sams Motorbike from the ground up & with mechanical support from his pit crew, Sam can be assured that he & his bike are prepared for the journey ahead. Sam has seen at firsthand how stress & mental illness can lead to workmates being unprepared to risks at work. Sam acknowledges that working FIFO, or being on the track, its critical to be fit - both physically & mentally as this helps to reduce the stressors he encounters. Being mentally centred while riding enables a perfect ride, at 255 km/hr you cant afford to be making mistakes. Similarly, while hes operating mobile plant on a construction site, he cant be distracted from doing his job safely. Regardless whether its at work or on the track, if youre stressed & not coping, Sam recommends talking to your mates or calling MATES in Construction WA on 1300 642 111.

14.01.2022 Have you registered for our upcoming MATES in Construction WA Open Connector Training? A Connector is a MATE who can keep you safe while connecting you to help. Most people participating in Connector training have naturally been in the role without even knowing it. The Connector training provides some extra skills for people to ask about suicide and then facilitate the link to help Connectors are trained in the following: What is a Connectors role? What is not a Connectors role? How to be alert to the signs of suicide. How to ask about suicide. How to connect a person to help. How to look after yourself as a Connector.
