23.01.2022 Over the last year, Mathiou Services has been teaming up with a few local universities to connect students to real-life experiences. Last week, we celebrated the completion of Johns's internship here at Mathiou Services while completing his Master of Professional Practice at Bond University. John worked in our estimating team alongside our senior estimator, Dane, and another fellow internee (now employee), Manish. My internship was a chance for me to gain practical experienc...e and apply theoretical knowledge from university to the working environment. My goal was to learn as much as I can by observing, helping team members when they need me. Specifically, I aimed to learn how to use industry software, read and interpret drawings quickly, communicate with colleagues, and prepare quotes for clients. So far, I have achieved all these goals. This was part of a bigger childcare renovation but the team recreated this area using all-natural elements including sandstone for easy seating, lower timber entrance for easy access, a new garden bed with extra seating was added to the back. One species of bamboo can actually grow a massive 90 cm per day (or 3.75 cm per hour). All the cells the bamboo needs are developed while its a bud, so it doesnt need to split like others, it simply stretches out. And because its filled with water it causes them to expand at a much quicker rate...... This is common for grasses, and its why you need to mow your lawn every week.
