To join in, email us at [email protected] to request the Zoom link and then just turn up. Everyone is welcome! UPDATE: One Hundred Factorial is cancelled at least until May. Sorry everyone.

23.01.2022 Happy New Year! The MLC Drop-In Centre starts again today 6th Jan for Summer Semester. We’ll be open 12noon-3:30pm Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri right up until O’Week.

20.01.2022 The first face-to-face One Hundred Factorial session in almost a year is on TODAY Thursday 4th March 12noon to 2pm Level 4 Hub Central. (If you want to know what One Hundred Factorial is and why it's called One Hundred Factorial, check out this blog post: https://blogs.adelaide.edu.au//one-hundred-factorial-the-/)

20.01.2022 The MLC face-to-face Drop-In Centre will be closed from Friday 20th March onwards, until further notice. (If social distancing rules are relaxed later, we will open again, but definitely not until after the mid-semester break.) Our new online virtual MLC Drop-In Room will launch by Tuesday 24th March. Watch this space for more information as we figure out the details.

17.01.2022 The weekly One Hundred Factorial sessions are back! (But we’re running via Zoom and only one hour long.) Every Thursday 1-2pm. Today I will be reading Nancy Casey’s short story Welcome to Hotel Infinity aloud while you illustrate. To join in, send us an email and I’ll give you the link privately.

15.01.2022 In 24 hours, more than 180 people across the world tweeted I hate math or I hate maths. That’s more often than one every eight minutes. It breaks my heart that so many people's experience of maths makes them feel this way.

15.01.2022 I (David) am figuring out how to do revision seminars for this semester, but I *will* do them for courses whose students want them. Announcement by end of tomorrow Wed 10th Jun. If you want one for your course, do ask!

13.01.2022 The MLC Virtual Drop-In Room is now online via MyUni! Current students can self-enrol via the link you can find on our website https://www.adelaide.edu.au/mathslearning/drop-in-centre It’s still the same opening hours as usual 10am-4pm Monday to Friday but via the discussion board and Zoom. (You won’t be able to post anything in the discussion board until we open each day.)... Note also our website has had to be moved over to the new system during this process, and it will take several days for all the course resources pages to make their way across. Please be patient.

12.01.2022 It's the first day of Semester 2 and the MLC Drop-In Centre is open face-to-face again! 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Social distancing means we can have at most four people per table including the tutor, but we are ready and raring to talk to everyone about any maths in any course.... https://www.adelaide.edu.au/mathslearning/drop-in-centre

12.01.2022 A little animation I (MLC lecturer David) made while writing our new online bridging course. I call it "binomial wave".

12.01.2022 We’re already three days into Summer Semester 2021, and we’ve talked to students about subspaces and differential equations and pulleys and the Sierpinski Sponge. If you want to drop in to chat maths with us we’re open 12noon-3:30pm Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri both face-to-face and online. https://www.adelaide.edu.au/mathslearning/drop-in-centre

11.01.2022 Here is a blog post David wrote last year about his habit of trying maths problems live on Twitter. It's the thing that his followers say is the favourite thing he did in 2019. https://blogs.adelaide.edu.au//trying-maths-live-on-twitt/

11.01.2022 The MLC lecturers are officially on leave until January 2020. Have a wonderful festive season and we'll see you again after 6th Jan 2020 for Summer Semester!

10.01.2022 I, your MLC coordinator David, made a set of puzzles called Jenga Views you might enjoy. If you have six Jenga blocks you can give them a go, or if you don't have Jenga blocks you can make some of your own with the template included in the file. https://drive.google.com//1rPl5rv1C6QgpSEtEKHkFjKIbpY/view The photo shows 20 of the puzzles as figured out by my daughter. PS: The MLC Virtual Drop-In Centre is still running 10am to 4pm this week, up to and including Thursday. I'll announce the holiday hours soon.

10.01.2022 Today was the last Drop-In Centre day of 2019. We return for Summer Semester from 6th Jan 2020 (12-3:30pm Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri). And tomorrow Wed 18th Dec is our last One Hundred Factorial of the year. 10am to 2pm Level 4 Hub Central. To get you in the mood, here’s a puzzle: the Four Fours.

09.01.2022 We wish the Summer Semester Maths IB students all the best with your exam. In your honour, here is an extremely niche joke.

08.01.2022 Welcome to all the new students! As we say here in the video: we really look forward to meeting you!

07.01.2022 For the past few days, our beloved Leaders have engaged with a lot of commencing students. From Wiltu Yarlu students to rural students, we have had the ability... to connect with them through our fun activities and talks. . Dr. Chelsea Avard the Peer Assisted Learning coordinator and other coordinators of The Writing Centre @writing.centre.uoa and Math Learning Centre were able to meet a lot of commencing students at Student Service Expo. They were here to talk about their personal experience and show what university has to provide for us for better academic experience. . There are some safety protocols to follow, but everyone was surely having fun on the first day of the orientation week. We hope our new students would enjoy their experience here at University of Adelaide. And so are other continuing students. . #passprogram #peerassistedstudysessions #orientation #studentserviceexpo #coordinator #wiltuyarlu #wiltuyarluorientation #matureage #rural #matureageorientation #ruralorientation See more

05.01.2022 The MLC Drop-In Centre is back on 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday from today Tuesday 6 October until the end of exams. Drop in to chat about anything mathematical that turns up in your Uni of Adelaide coursework.

02.01.2022 Apparently, logarithm can be translated as thought number (log as in geoLOGy or psychoLOGy, and arithm as in ARITHMetic). This appeals to me (David). I am imagining that log_a(b) is the number that a thinks of when it sees b.

01.01.2022 There is a new walkway from Hub Central Level 3 through to the MLC!

01.01.2022 MLC lecturer David just wrote a blog post about why the weekly puzzle and games sessions are called "One Hundred Factorial" https://blogs.adelaide.edu.au//one-hundred-factorial-the-/

01.01.2022 I (David) have changed the Solving Problems poster in the MLC for the first time in several years. Have a closer look at it next time you're there! If you want to read all about the story of the creation of the poster, check out the blog post I wrote: https://blogs.adelaide.edu.au//the-solving-problems-poster/

01.01.2022 My goodness we interacted with a lot of people in 2019. Across 2019 the MLC had 6055 recorded student visits to the Drop-In Centre, and spoke to 2911 people when we helped out or ran classes in their actual courses.

01.01.2022 Don't forget the MLC is still running in remote mode via a MyUni discussion board and Zoom. If you're a Uni of Adelaide student you can join in with the link you'll find on the MLC website: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/mathslearning/drop-in-centre There are plenty of tutors waiting around between 10am and 4pm just to have a conversation with you about any aspect of learning and using maths at uni!
