25.01.2022 Ever wondered what goes into a custom designed and made wedding dress? Here is an insight into Lea’s custom gown from first fitting, to final fitting, to her big day. Lea’s experience does differ to the normal bride as we went into fittings without a clear direction and wanted to play around with design ideas during the fitting stages as there were a number of elements we wanted to explore. Going through a range of fittings in calico we were able to messily drape design conc...epts and get a grasp on what design elements would work best for Lea and her style. The end product - a fitted gown with an open back, an off the shoulder neckline with a draped feature on one arm and a large billowy sleeve on the other. Lea’s dress incorporated 3 different laces, pearls, feathers and a lot of hand appliqué to get the desired finish and overall soft feel for her gown. It is not always a picture perfect process, and generally looks quite messy, but it is all worth it for the final product fit perfectly and styled to the clients body. 23.01.2022 Fun fact about Sarah’s wedding dress - She actually did not see what her dress looked like till only 3 days out from her wedding. She had just returned from a month long holiday and had left with only her final toile fitting having taken place, which was rather ill fitting at that time. Sarah had no sneak peeks while away and no idea about beading placement or finishing’s. Luckily, she loved it. Could you hold out seeing your wedding dress till 3 days before? 21.01.2022 Well how exciting is this!! Although social distancing measures must still apply, this is such an exciting step for brides and grooms in the Territory. For the Matilda Alegria studio, this means design consultations can be done in person again, and very soon fittings can take place. Woohoo.... 19.01.2022 We have a love for this dress and this bride like you couldn’t imagine. What an honour it was designing this non traditional wedding dress for Sarah. Matilda opt for a more boho meets Morocco design - Complete with silk, meters of soft tulle, Swarovski crystals and beads, this dress sure sounds like a traditional gown, but the design, colour palette and placement of the beads bring a very distinctive edge unlike any other. 08.01.2022 Needless to say, 2020 was a different year, which lead to an extremely quiet season in the Matilda Alegria studio. In all honesty though, I whole heartedly enjoyed having a forced break and made the most of having a dry season off for a change. The break has been good, but I am now so excited to be getting into the 2021 season. I am working with some beautiful brides on some incredible designs. Cannot wait to share them with you.
