23.01.2022 With life back to basics in lockdown things are fairly slow.. The most exciting part of our day is when we sit down to eat a meal together. Combine delicious food made with love, handmade ceramics and some vintage cutlery and I’m in heaven. Today we’re sharing a rainbow salad prepped with lots of things found in our own garden. What are your daily rituals getting you through lockdown? ... x
23.01.2022 Late this arvo my fella and I made coffees in our travel cups and the kids and I made apple & Greek yogurt doughnuts and we headed for the wild, windy, winter beach to sip our hot drinks and eat our warm sweet doughnuts. It was heaven. The cafe’s may not be excepting our travel cups at the moment but at least we can make our own! Dm me to order your own. x

20.01.2022 This week I was inspired by @juliaostro frittelle (aka Italian doughnuts) and I had a stack of half eaten apples lying around thanks to an inquisitive 2 year old. I changed things up of course because who even am I when following a recipe? below you’ll find the measurements that I used. I used Greek yogurt instead of the traditional version with ricotta because I wasn’t going to the shop especially. They turned out fluffy and oh so delicious, super easy and best served wa...rm and fresh. Enjoy. x . *Apple & Yoghurt Frittelle* 200g Self raising flour 200g Greek yoghurt 2 TBS of brown sugar 1 Tsp of vanilla extract 1 Tsp of cinnamon 3/4 cup of grated apple 1/3 cup of sultanas Zest & juice of a lemon 2 eggs 1 shot of fortified wine (optional, I used Tawny) Veggie oil for frying Cinnamon sugar for dusting . Whisk eggs until fluffy, add sugar and whisk, add yogurt and whisk. Add apple, vanilla, cinnamon, wine, sultanas, lemon zest and juice and mix. Fold in the flour gently. On the stove heat a saucepan of oil over medium-high heat. Spoon balls of dough into saucepan and fry until golden brown (1.5-2 min) Toss in cinnamon sugar and devour while still warm. See more
19.01.2022 Tonight we packed a picnic dinner of hot pies, mandarins and hot cocoa and we hiked through heathland and sandy tracks in the misty rain. We hit the empty beach right on twilight as the sun pushed through the grey clouds and we sat watching the wild waves crashing onto the shore and sipped our hot cocoa. We watched another big storm roll in so we packed up, got our boots back on and high tailed it back up the sandy tracks just before the rain set in. 19.01.2022 These hands belong to a very special bloke.. my fella.. my babies daddy. He is the guy that carries the heavy picnic basket for kms and drops it where I say. He’s the guy that poses (without complaining) with ceramic cups for hours because the light is just right for all the photos. He’s the guy who’s starving but waits so patiently for the dinner because I have to snap and share every meal or recipe before we eat. He’s the guy that changes every nappy. He’s my sous chef. ...He’s the guy that follows every shopping list. The guy that reads to the kids. The guy that plays, loves and laughs with the kids till it hurts. He’s the bloke who listens to my every thought and has input in how we can be better parents. He is the voice of reason when my postpartum anxious mind is spinning. He’s the guy that holds the little hands, wipes away the tears and applies every bandaid. He’s the guy who we are lucky enough to love. Happy Father’s Day to all the loveable dads, big and small. Happy Father’s Day for all the dads missed and all those who miss them. Happy Father’s Day to the uncles, the grandfathers, the step fathers and the father figures. I bloody love Father’s Day and I love celebrating all the things that made my Dad special and all the things that make my fella special too. x See more

15.01.2022 What day is it? What month is it? Here in the far South East of Aus we’re losing track.. I’m missing ceramics and the connections it offers me and I’m absolutely busting to get the business back up and running stat but I have really been making the most of this simple time. Our main focus everyday has been getting out in nature and we are lucky enough to have some of the best beaches in the world at our doorstep. We’ve picnicked, built shelters from the rain, swam, walked for... miles and climbed every sand dune in South Gippsland and it’s been wild and beautiful. I’ve had time to read books, write in my journal and do hours of craft with the kids. We make pasta from scratch just for a midweek lunch snack and we even bloody meditate! It’s taken us a while to get here but I now feel like I’m living my best life and I’ll definitely remember 2020 for all it’s wild beauty and family connections. What will you remember about 2020? 15.01.2022 Who else loves a fresh, fluffy, crispy falafel? We’re going away camping again this week thanks to a combo of rural vic easing restrictions and a mad love for the great outdoors (hang in there Melb friends & fam not long to go now). So for the next day or so I’ll be preparing food to eat on the fly and the first cab off the rank is the delishhhh falafel. These bad boys are great on their own or wrapped up in flat bread with lashings of hummus, tomato & onion. Recipe: makes a... doz 1 can of chickpeas rinsed & drained 1 pinch of salt 1/2 tsp ground coriander 1/2 tsp cumin Cracked pepper 1/4 cup of fresh parsley 3 tbs of wholemeal flour (use chickpea flour for GF) 1 small onion roughly chopped 2 garlic cloves. Throw the lot in a food processor and blitz. Careful not to over blitz and turn it into hummus. Roll into balls and put in the fridge for an hour or so. Then heat a pot of vegetable oil and drop them in when they’re nice and golden brown remove and rest on brown paper. Enjoy. x See more
15.01.2022 I’m super saddened and full of anxiety to say that I’m going to have to shut up shop for the most part of this Lockdown 2.0. Part of my job involves heading to the big smoke weekly and at this stage it’s just not possible or safe to do so here in Victoria. If you have an online order and it’s ready for shipping I’ll be doing that this week. If you have a preorder or any commission pieces I’ll be getting in touch ASAP. If you have pieces to pick up from a workshop I’ll be putt...ing this on hold until the lockdown is over. Thank you so much for all the support during this cray cray time! I’ll do another shop update this week if you want to snap up a piece that’s ready to ship. Any questions please shoot me a message and there’s always paintings to buy @matilda_studios_art Hang in there everyone and if you’re in Victoria pretty please do the right thing! I’m off to cry into my cup of tea. See more

11.01.2022 HOT PIES! Today we eat Massaman Beef Curry Pies. Last night, well yesterday arvo really, I made a Beef Massaman Curry in my cast iron pot. Massaman is so fragrant and basically heaven on a cold winters night. I brown everything on the stove in my pot and then I throw the pot in the oven on low for a couple of hours. Yesterday while it was simmering away in the oven we rugged up and had a big walk along the beach and then we were met by the fragrant sweet smelling curry when w...e got home. It never disappoints. This morning we turned the leftovers into pies. RECIPE BELOW (it makes enough to feed around 8 people but I always freeze half so we’ve got a spare meal in the freezer for those busy mid week days). . Massaman Beef Curry 2 Tbs veggie oil 1 kg gravy beef, cubed 2 medium onions, diced 2 garlic cloves, roughly chopped 1 Tsp ginger paste 2 heaped Tbs Massaman curry paste (make your own if you have the ingredients & time and store it in the fridge for those winter curry nights. Store bought is quick & easy though) 2 cans of coconut cream 1 can of water 1/2 cup cashews or peanuts 3 medium potatoes, cut into large cubes 1 large carrot, cut into large cubes 1 bay leaf 2 kaffir lime leaves 1 stick of lemongrass, bruised 1 1/2 Tbs of fish sauce 2 Tbs of brown sugar 1 cup frozen peas (optional) 1 lemon or lime . Heat a cast iron pot on the stove on medium heat. Add the oil & onion, when the onion is lightly coloured add the garlic, ginger and curry paste. When fragrant add the meat, bay, kaffir and lemon grass. Stir the meat so it’s well coated in the herbs, spices and paste. When the meat is nice and brown add the fish sauce, nuts and sugar & stir. Then add the coconut cream and fill one of the cans with water and add that. Throw in the carrot & potato and bring to a simmer. Once it’s simmering transfer to a low oven around 120-150 and let simmer for around 2 hours. Take it out and add the frozen peas (they thaw out and cook in the pot) after its sat for 15+ mins squeeze in the juice of a lime and serve with steamed rice or roti. See more

05.01.2022 Staying positive during this pandemic one ragú at a time.. Yesterday we had a lazy morning. We enjoyed a delicious Spanish inspired breakfast together at the dining table and then naturally we all hopped back into bed for a cuddle and a read. When the little ones started to get restless we dragged ourselves out of bed and threw together a pasta dough. While the dough was resting and the kids were doing laps of the driveway on their bikes I put on a Pork & Fennel Ragù. Super s...imple, delicious family food! While the Ragù simmered away filling the house with rich aromas I called the kids inside and we all sat around the table and hand rolled out Pici pasta. Pici is a family fave to make as it’s easy for little hands to get involved and it’s essentially only flour and water with a dash of olive oil and a pinch of salt. When the Pici was all rolled out into a fat spaghetti we let it dry for a little while and played a few games of cards. Then when our tummies were rumbling we boiled the Pici making sure it was al dente and then tossed it through the Ragù. Of course we served it with a nice local Pinot and a salad of fresh leaves straight from the garden with a red wine vinaigrette. These mindful and slow ‘family centred’ activities fill my heart with comfort and peace and that is exactly what we need in these uncertain times. Recipe and full blog post in bio. x
05.01.2022 Wholly hell how is it almost DECEMBER?! This years a write off and where’s my brown paper bag for deep breathing? remembering this colourway for calming effects. x
05.01.2022 Long gone are the days of manicured nails. Any potter will tell you that nails just get in the way... After several years of throwing balls of clay my hands now resemble the hands of an 80 year old man who’s spent a lifetime ploughing the feilds. It’s totally worth it though.
05.01.2022 It’s so chilly here at the moment, particularly in my studio.. so my fave thing to do is rug up, make a nice hot drink in one of these (at the moment I’m drinking peppermint tea) and head out to the studio. I also use warm water to throw with and run a hot bubble bath at the end of the day to thaw out. Being elbows deep in cold wet mud all day can really take its toll. I wouldn’t change it for the world though. . Cup in fairy floss pink // DM to purchase x
03.01.2022 A Sunday well spent brings a week of content.. x
02.01.2022 FRIYAY! another hectic week almost done and dusted and a weekend of celebrations planned. Any other Victorians feeling like this year is busier and more hectic than ever? I feel like after a year of slow living with all the lockdowns that I’m now cramming two years worth of work and activities into one.
