25.01.2022 Do you recognise this famous mural? Located in Augathella at the Boadicea Galley and Cinema, here you can view the 1956 movie, Smiley. The movie tells the story of a mischievous Australian boy who is desperate to earn money for a bicycle but runs into some misadventures along the way! Look out for the gallery on Main Street.
25.01.2022 Have you thought about throwing a line in, having a swim, taking a paddle or just relaxing on the Thomson River, Longreach Qld? #ExperienceLongreach #MatildaWay #OutbackQueensland
24.01.2022 Australia is well known for its love of massive landmarks (think the Big Banana in Coffs Harbour, the Big Apple in Stanthorpe and the Big Barramundi in the Daintree for example). Well, in the Murweh Shire we have our very own BIG iconthe giant Meat Ant! Created in honour of the local Mighty Augathella Meat Ant rugby team, this sculpture is over a million times the size of an actual ant! Yikes! That is one HUGE ant! - #experiencecharleville #augathella #matildaway #outbackqld #outbacktourism #caravanningqld
24.01.2022 Here’s a fantastic shot of our new WWII Secret Base building in Charleville after the rain, taken by our very own tour guide, Sam! If you’re passing through in the off-season, please note that our opening hours have changed. We are now open from 10am-12pm weekdays. - #goodtogo #outbackqueensland #charleville #WWII #topsecretbase #touroutbackqld #matildaway

19.01.2022 Cunnamulla has no shortages of walks you can undertake. One of our favourites is the riverwalk, a great place for bird watching and enjoying our native flora and fauna. Stop by the Cunnamulla Visitor Centre for a copy of the map. #visitcunnamulla #cunnamulla #outbackqueensland #thisisqueensland #matildaway

16.01.2022 Have you spotted a balloon floating in the sky in Charleville and wondered what it was? Every day at 9.15am, a weather balloon is automatically released from the Charleville Bureau of Meteorology to collect data such as temperature, wind direction and speed. This data is then used to forecast the weather! Catch the balloon release every day at 9.15am! - #experiencecharleville #outbacktourism #outbackqueensland #matildaway #murwehshire
13.01.2022 Barely a couple of weeks after cyclone Imogen hit Carpentaria Shire, here is some fantastic news from the Barramundi Hatchery - and good news for a fishy future!
13.01.2022 Barcaldine was the first place in which the military placed Emu feathers in their Slouch Hats. During the great Shearers' Strike of 1891, the emu feathers in a slouch hat, was devised to distinguish striking members from non-strikers. The soldiers, sent to restore order, adopted the emblem and thus a famous Australian tradition was established. Lest we forget #barcaldine #matildaway #outbackqueensland #thisisqueensland #seeaustralia #lestweforget

10.01.2022 Barcaldine was formed when the railway line forged west from Rockhampton. With the railway line came people from all nationalities, backgrounds and cultures making their lives and starting families here. The History Room in the Barcaldine Visitor Information Centre is showing a multicultural display called "From all the lands on Earth we come", showcasing the different nationalities, backgrounds and cultures currently residing in Barcaldine with 15 different nationalities represented. Make sure you check this display out and learn about the stories of our locals, the "Barcaldineites". #barcaldine #matildaway #outbackqueensland #thisisqueensland #seeaustralia

03.01.2022 If you’re looking for a place to cool off this summer, drop into the Ellangowan Hotel in Augathella for friendly service and a cold beverage! It is the only surviving hotel out of several that once lined the main street in town - the other two hotels in Augathella burned down many years ago. Stop in and say hi next time you’re passing through! - https://www.facebook.com/Ellengowan.Hotel.Augathella/ - #goodtogo #outbackqueensland #augathella #matildaway #caravanningqld

02.01.2022 The owner of Kynuna's Dagworth Station, Bob Macpherson, told Banjo Paterson the story of striking shearer, Samuel Hoffmeister's suicide beside the Diamantina - just a few kilometres upstream from the Combo Waterhole. Allegedly Hoffmeister had been involved in the burning down of the Dagworth woolshed. That story was merged with other tales that Paterson had been told and inspired him to write Australia's best loved national song, Waltzing Matilda. It was Christina MacPherson..., Paterson's then fiance who adapted a popular Scottish tune, Craigslea, to become the original music for Paterson's lyrics. The turnoff to Combo Waterhole is from the Matilda Way is 16km east of Kynuna and 153km north of Winton. #kynuna #waltzingmatilda #matildaway #outbackqueensland #thisisqueensland #seeaustralia
