22.01.2022 Using tiles to make a statement can be an inexpensive way to add interest to your bathroom. The classic combination of black, white and wood in this bathroom is accentuated by white penny round tiles and striking black grout, with the timber benchtop adding warmth and texture. 21.01.2022 Design tip: using colourful tiles Tiles can be an easy way to create a unique look to your home. The use of bold patterned tiles here creates a point of difference in what would be an otherwise simple outdoor area, and creates distinct indoor / outdoor spaces that still flow well with each other. If you have the space, a walk-in robe can provide a large area for storing of clothing, shoes and accessories, making your clothing easy to access and view. Drawers help keep small items organised 3. Open shelving is perfect for folded items like jumpers and trousers 4. Narrow shelves are practical for shoes and make use of dead space under hanging items Picture: the walk-in robe of our dreams by the talented Kyal and Kara.

20.01.2022 Confused about what type of roof to choose? Colorbond is highly thermally efficient, insulating your home in both summer and winter. Cooler colours have the added benefit of radiating less heat, and it cools down quicker than tiles at night. As it’s about 90% lighter than roof tiles, roof battens can be lighter and rafters can be spaced further apart, presenting a saving in the cost of your house frame. ... : Pinterest

20.01.2022 A simple colour scheme, terrazzo style tiles, and matte black tapware make this bathroom we’ve just built shine #builtbyMATIRA

18.01.2022 WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER! On Friday night I was absolutely *thrilled* to be awarded the 2020 Women in Building Award by Master Builders Queensland. Building & Construction is one of Australia’s biggest industries, but only 11% of the workforce is female, and only 1% of those are in the building trades. As a female builder and a Mum of 4 girls, I want to encourage more women to get into the building business, and I hope my win will give any girls or women thinking about g...etting into building the inspiration to take the leap. If I can do it, so can you! I’ve worked tirelessly to build my business into what it is today. I can’t tell you how proud I am to have been recognised by the judges from Master Builders thank you to all my family, friends, clients, suppliers and subcontractors that allow me to do something I love every day. Congratulations to all the amazing women I was nominated up against. I’m extremely privileged to work in this industry with some very clever and talented women.

18.01.2022 This is a rear shot of our latest knockdown rebuild at Shelly Beach, Caloundra. This custom-built split level is one of my spec homes and it will be up for sale soon. Keep an eye on my website for details.

18.01.2022 Today’s building lesson how slabs are formed. Concreters work in a team when pouring a slab, with each member of the crew playing an important part in making sure the slab’s done right. A boom is used to pour the concrete into the formwork that’s the timber edging you can see around the slab, and it sort of works like a big cake tin to keep all the concrete in place while it’s curing. ... The tool that looks like a whipper snipper is used to agitate the concrete, which removes all the air bubbles. Once the concrete has been poured, it’s then screeded (smoothed) using a back and forth motion, and the level is checked to make sure it’s at the finish height nominated on plan. Then, voila you’ve got yourself a slab, all ready for your frame!

18.01.2022 A Guest bedroom should be a sanctuary for adults, a place to get away from it all and relax as a visitor in your home. So, what should you consider when designing one? - Comfortable layered bedding and a stylish headboard - A plush rug - Good curtains, preferably blackout... - Ample lighting - Space for storage and dressing - A statement mirror This example from The Designory features charcoal wainscoting to add style and character without being overpowering, while the pendant light is practical and acts as a feature.

18.01.2022 Barn doors are an easy way to make a statement in your home. Aside from their striking good looks, one of the main reasons for their popularity is because they can fit in a small space, and don’t take up the room a normal door would when swinging open. Barn doors can simply slide neatly out of the way, making it easy to move from one room to the next.

14.01.2022 Flashback to this little beauty that we built in 2018, a knockdown rebuild in Moffat Beach. Just one block back from the beach, the spot was ideal but as the site was only 10m wide, a custom designed home was needed. We worked closely with our client to design a coastal inspired beach style home, with master suite downstairs and a raked ceiling to the living area with corner stacker door. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms, a large rumpus room and a balcony facing north. Due to ...access constraints, the pool had to be installed before construction of the house could commence. Currently being used as a holiday let, our clients were thrilled by the home we built for them.

Landscaping can be an expensive exercise, but if you’re happy to wait for them to grow, seedlings are a cost effective option. Natives are also great as they’re hardy and low maintenance.
