14.01.2022 This is the Dogi and Obi worn by Nagamine Shoshin Sensei. The Dogi bears the kanji for his name. The belt is a simple black belt with the three stripes design...ated for a Hanshi. On one side again it says Nagamine, and the other it says Matsubayashiryu. On the day that Akamine Sensei was recognized by Governor Ota for his contributions to martial arts, Nagamine Sensei was also there being recognized. Nagamine Sensei founded his branch of the Shorinryu tree, and authored the definitive book The Essence of Okinawan Karate. He was a kind, and humble man who continually sought self improvement. When I was younger I though that having multi colored dogis was neat. I still have a black top that I used to mix and match white and black. Then I met Akamine Sensei, Nakazato Sensei, Nagamine Sensei and others. They all wore the simple white Gi. At most they might have one or two patches on the Gi or the kanji for the style or system the represented. I believe that this is the true way to wear a Gi and have come to dislike uniforms that are adorned with stripes or multiple colors. The true luminaries in martial arts have no need to embroider Instructor, Master, Grand Master, Supreme Grand Master, Black Belt Club, or the school name across the back like a billboard. If you feel the need to do this to your uniforms, I ask you to reconsider the example of these internationally renown and sought out instructors who never wanted to be called Master, just sensei. We all choose our own paths, but it has always seemed to me that the more humble the person on the path is the more they are able to learn.

11.01.2022 Congratulations to the successful new black belts who achieved their Shodan (1st Dan) today at the NSW Honbu Dojo. Well done Aaron (Taree Dojo), Steven (Laurieton Dojo), An (Taree Dojo), Kathryn (Wingham Dojo). The panel was made up of Sensei John Carlyle (Renshi 6th Dan), Sensei Reece Cummings (4th Dan), Sensei Rebecca Cavanagh (4th Dan), and Sensei Shayne Jennings (4th Dan).

06.01.2022 Souji (, also Soji, Sji) literally means cleaning. Everybody, who dives a little bit into the Japanese culture, realizes that cleaning, cleanness, and tidi...ness are of utmost importance. This also applies to Karate and Budo. Cleaning shall teach virtues like respect, humbleness, mindfulness, diligence, and a sense to be part of a collective. In addition, the practice of cleaning shall also lead to spiritual purity and enlightenment. How this works and why you should clean your Dojo regulary explains Dr. Christian Tribowski. See more
