25.01.2022 Years and years ago, the only thing that you got to remember your wedding was your album. Now you have access to USBs, discs, and more. Sure, digital is here to stay, but at the end of the day, an album will last forever. There’s just something so therapeutic about flicking through the pages in your album, never knowing what is on the other side. 24.01.2022 This week I learnt more about my wording in the wedding industry. Big thanks and shout out to @mrtheodoreweddings for helping me to identify another one. In recent years Ive changed a lot of the wording on my website to reflect the changes in laws around marriage. More importantly, to reflect my own values of equality. There was one that I still hadnt identified though. Bridal Party needed to be changed to Wedding Party. So, I jumped onto my website and it was a 10 se...cond job. As innocent a mistake as it is, I realise the impact that it might have. This little shoot was for a @toastweddings feature from a couple of years ago. #equality #lovewins

24.01.2022 Im back from a week away in Sydney where my family gathered to celebrate my beautiful Mums birthday. I showed my boys the house I grew up in and where I went to school (probably way more exciting for me than them). While I was there I put together a little shoot with these two amazing souls. Keira & Sam very kindly lent me their time so that I could create a set of images @longreef_weddings This coming weekend is huge with 4 weddings. Next week is full of editing and meeti...ng new couples planning their weddings for this year and next. Its a buzz knowing that the new year is in full swing and Im very thankful to have a full calendar and lots of great things to look forward to. 23.01.2022 To all my couples.. This is my Grandmother. I took this photo when I was just starting out with photography. I was keen to try and get a really nice portrait of her. Shes 96 now and kicking on at an aged care joint on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Got me thinking, maybe for some of you it sucks that your grandparents cant make it to your upcoming wedding. So, if any of my scheduled couples arent able to have their grandparents at their wedding then lets make a coffee da...te with them at their place when this virus thing blows over. Ill print some of your wedding photos and bring them along. You sit together checking them out and Ill snap a few photos of you all. Ill try and get a shot like this for you too. I realise this is still a second prize but its an idea that popped into my head yesterday. I dont want any money for this, its a small thing that I can do to hopefully lift your spirits. Love Matt.

22.01.2022 I live here in Rye on the Mornington Peninsula. I didn’t grow up here though, I grew up in a place called Collaroy which is on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Somewhere between this pier and the back beach is a little house, with a garden, two cats and a converted garage where I do all my editing and shuffling of papers to run my business. For about 6 weeks of the year, it’s a bit chaotic down here but the rest of the year is pure bliss and I’m very grateful that I call this pla...ce home. Everyone says hello or smiles when you walk past on the street. I know my neighbours by their first name and my kids get to play on the street like I did as a kid. #reflection #peace #grateful

13.01.2022 Last night I decided to filter out the noise of the world for a couple of hours. I watched Pearl Jam 20 for probably the 50th time. It documents one of my favourite bands first 20 years. It took me back to simpler times when my world didnt extend much further than a few suburbs. Its a great time to watch those old favourites and appreciate a less complicated time in our lives. 12.01.2022 Is a photographer considered an artist? Its a big call to say yes because Ive always believed that to be an artist, you have to create something from scratch. Think painter with a white canvas. Photography doesnt start at zero or plain white, or thin air. Theres a subject and an environment. Im not talking about photoshopping and the endless possibilities this software gives us either. Before software, as an image is captured for the very first time, it starts with so...mething in front of the lens which the photographer didnt create. Heres where I think art as a photographer can begin. It begins at a place where the truth in a captured image is manipulated just with the settings of a camera combined with the personality of the person holding it. Where an image wouldnt otherwise exist if seen through our own eyes. Im a deep thinker and this question came up (again) because I had a suggestion come through on my social media page that said I should list myself as an artist. Pffttt I thought, nah. But then I shoot a photo like this and I think well maybe. 12.01.2022 The idea of becoming a filmmaker has been bubbling away for a number of years and so with Covid bringing our industry to a halt in 2020, I took it as a sign. It was a giant pause on my world. A time for reflection, recalibration and a chance to look forward to what my future looks like. Photography will always remain, there's no question. What film does for me is add motion and sound. These two ingredients add so much emotion to a story. It's these that will give you memories of parents and grandparents when they're gone. It will give your children a look into their parents lives before they were around.

One of the guests at a wedding I shot last night asked if she could take a photo of me for the couple to remember me by. I wanted to run a mile. So, I get it, Im not a fan either. 09.01.2022 One of the reasons Caitlin & Rob booked me was because of my short stint shooting live music years ago. When they took me through the vision for their wedding, I was calm and reserved on the outside but on the inside I felt like tying them up and forcing them to sign my wedding contract right then and there. Book me, BOOK ME NOW! Thankfully, no ropes were needed and I was lucky enough to experience a wedding like no other. It was pure joy, much like the joy on Caitlins face ...here dancing with her husband for the first time wearing wedding rings. Theres a few things in this image that explain their day perfectly; the food truck in the background that says festival wedding, the pair of Chuck Taylors on Robs feet and the beautiful smiles in the background. It was the perfect wedding to finish off a significant year

08.01.2022 Just before full lockdown, Tamara & Nic were able to have a small ceremony and a dinner with family & friends. When I asked if I could do a bit of filming, thankfully they said yes. They were very patient with me as I fumbled around and tried to become familiar with new gear. Just like my first film, I'm sure I'll look back at this one and cringe but each little step is an opportunity to learn. And, most of all, I'm enjoying this :)

07.01.2022 Just the tonic Ive needed after a long time feeling flat about the state of the world. A great review from one of my favourite weddings of all time. Thank you Callum & Lyndsay. 01.01.2022 Today was tough for all of us. Yes, I photographed a wedding today and yeah it felt super weird. It was a shortened day, all outdoors with no reception at all. Todays news filtered through just as we were wrapping up and the realisation hit me that this could be my last wedding for a while. So i wanted to make my last shot of the day count. It didnt have to be technically brilliant, it just had to have meaning and be full of love. So here it is. I have stacks of editing to do and a mountain of emails to get to for all of my couples. I plan to begin that process after I let my body sleep for however long it wants tonight. Love to you all xx
