16.01.2022 You’re never too old for martial arts. We in the martial arts community have always understood this, but even the uninitiated are starting to catch on now. Tha...nks to the visibility of combat sports like MMA, the increasing popularity of masters divisions at tournaments, and the viral popularity of boxing grannies and the outside world is starting to understand that martial arts can be a career, a rewarding pastime, and a component of lifelong health and meaning. And with this new awareness comes a whole new level of curiosity about training and taking up a martial art in adulthood. So if you’re an adult who is reading this because you’re thinking about trying martial arts, we have good news for you: it’s also never too late to start. The outside world might still assume that things like getting your first martial art uniform, tying a white belt around your waist, and taking a beginner’s class are for kids. But we’re here to assure you that intro classes are often open to all ages! Whether you’re trying to determine whether martial arts are right for you, or returning after some time off or even if you’re just looking for a reminder of why we keep going, here’s a look at five ways in which martial arts training can benefit adults. 1. Martial arts are excellent for stress relief. Life is hard and stress and anxiety are on the rise. A little martial arts training is a great way to take the edge off. Martial arts don’t just give you a needed break from the challenges of life outside of the dojo. They also help you to develop the tools that will help you tackle stress in other facets of your life. Physical fitness and mental training like meditation are both effective ways to manage stress, and martial arts training provides both of those in a safe and fun environment. 2. They can improve your mental health. As we mentioned above, there’s a significant mental component to most martial arts training. Most lessons encourage mental focus and thoughtfulness in everything from the movements themselves to the way that you approach your training. This emphasis on mindfulness in thought and action aren’t a cure-all, but they can be a great outlet for anyone who is dealing with these concerns. But don’t just take our word for it. Although research into this area is still in its infancy, some recent studies are starting to show that martial arts training can have a positive impact on your mental health. 3. Training a fun way to develop and maintain physical fitness. Getting and staying fit isn’t easy. And it’s even more of a challenge if you’re not a big fan of traditional gym workouts like weight lifting and aerobics classes. Martial arts lessons offer adults a way to challenge their strength, cardio, balance, flexibility, and agility which are all key components of physical fitness in a fun and non-judgemental atmosphere. Whether you’re looking for the intense warm-ups, practice, and sparring involved in martial arts, martial arts training offers a wide variety of options for people of all needs and levels of fitness who are looking for a new way to improve their health. 4. Martial arts training can provide you with vital self-defense skills. We might have to worry about the bully on the school playground anymore, but the adult world has its own challenges and dangers, and some sound self-defense training is beneficial to people of all ages. Martial arts lessons can provide you with practical techniques that you can apply to real life situations that will help give you both the confidence and skills to help to protect yourself in the outside world. Good martial arts training will also teach you when to fight and when to run, which is an important but often overlooked component of self-defense. 5. Martial arts are also great for your social life. We are currently in what some health professionals call a lonely crisis Making friends outside of school can be a challenge for even the most social adults. A large percentage of the population doesn’t even know how to start meeting new people. Adult martial arts are a great way to improve your social life for a number of reasons. Most training takes place in an encouraging and non-judgemental atmosphere, which means that you can relax and be yourself among new people. Martial arts can also be relatively non-competitive, because they focus on individual growth and achievement. Your teammates are there to help you and each other be the best that they can be, not compete against you, which makes for a very positive environment to build new bonds in. Finally, martial arts training introduces you to some of the best, coolest, most thoughtful, respectful, and interesting people you’ll ever meet, because martial arts attracts good people and brings out the best in them.

04.01.2022 With grading fast approaching at all our MF schools it a great time to discuss Goal Setting. Setting goals allows us to reach our greatest potential. We see st...udent’s come in everyday, some struggle with the curriculum, others with confidence, but each one keeps moving forward until they meet their goal. Our hope is that our student’s continue to persist not only in their training but also in school. By creating goals and setting out to accomplish them, we can help them realise their full potential to achieve anything. The big goal of earning a Black Belt can be broken down into earning tips and moving up in belt rank. The shorter term weekly and daily goals could be to perfect one or two moves. The review is the belt testing and the rejoicing is in the sense of accomplishment and joy that comes from earning a new belt. And, at the conclusion of every belt test, we ask our students to renew their goals in the martial arts. What's your next belt goal?

03.01.2022 We all want our children growing up safe and out of harms way. Though we hope our kids never have to use it, our martial arts teaching provides kids with self... defence skills that can give them the strength and confidence to protect themselves. We are so grateful that our daughter has the opportunity to learn these skills and as a mother, I personally feel more peaceful about letting her go and explore as she gets older. Best of all they build strong friendships and have fun while in our classes. Message us to book your children in for a free two week trial. #mfmartialartscasino #mfmartialartsevanshead #martialarts #mfmartialartsaustralia #youthservices #fitcommunity #fitness #selfdefence #blackbeltsuccess #casinoactivities #fitkids #uxlpt #casinoindoorsportsstadium #youthprograms #nothernriverskidsactivities #schoolholiday

02.01.2022 What Does the MF Uniform Represent? A uniform is not just a piece of clothing. It is also a mental and physical preparation tool. Putting on your uniform and t...ying the belt around your waist serves as a signal that you need to get ready for class and give 100% of yourself to it. By leaving everything else behind before you step onto the mats, you will ensure you are both physically and mentally present during the class, so that you can experience all the benefits of the training session at hand. In many instances, the uniform makes you able to safely do the planned activities during class. It is made to get dirty and withstand to rigorous use so you won’t have to worry about it when you are practising the techniques on the mat. Martial arts uniforms are designed to be comfortable and non-restrictive. It may feel a little odd wearing it at first but you will soon be accustomed to the feel of the uniform. We are always looking forward to seeing someone wearing the uniform for the first time especially the younger kids. Their faces light up the moment they show up to class and rush to join their classmates. Here at Matt Fiddes martial arts the instructors always wear a different uniform so that it is easy for anyone in the class to recognise them and approach them whenever it is necessary. For the students, different belts and uniforms help our instructors to differentiate who is attending what class and at which level of progress they are at the moment. The uniform also plays one more important role it helps you come to an understanding that everyone here at MF is a part of a global martial arts brand , team and family. Our uniforms help us build that family closeness and help everyone understand that they are welcome. It shows people that they are part of the martial art community the select few willing to train, learn and advance. When do we need to wear our uniform ? We always encourage people to train in Full uniform. In Australia it’s extremely hot in summer and in this case branded MF t-shirt and your Gi pants are perfectly fine. There are some occasions when wearing a full uniform is a must. These events include our championships and gradings for your belt/rank promotion. It is important to recognise that it is important to bring and wear your uniforms during the class because it is another way to show commitment, dedication and unity. Need to update your uniform?
