24.01.2022 / Hello world, its me // (did you want to know more about me...I hope so because here it is! ) 1.) What is your profession? I am a Myotherapist. It comes from the words Myo/=muscle & Therapist/=someone skilled in a particular therapy So you can think of me as a muscle therapist essentially. ... 2.) When did you graduate? 2013 3.) Where did you study? RMIT University in Melbourne 4.) When did you first start working in a clinic/open your own practice? I was fortunate enough to be offered a job by one of my lectures so when I finished University I dropped straight into that. So probably early 2014. 5.) How many clinics have you worked at? 5 clinics so far but Im really happy where I am now and have no plans to change any time soon 6.) What was your favorite placement during study? AFL draft camp Its always nice to treat different types of people and athletes are among the best to work with for a variety of reasons. 7.) What is your favourite skill you have learnt? Dry needling Ive seen it do many impressive things over the years. 8.) What else do you want to learn in the future? I just want to keep building my knowledge on exercise prescription and overall just continue to refine and build on the knowledge I already have 9.) What is your favourite thing about the job? Helping people I love to help people so being able to really improve someones quality of life dramatically is often very rewarding 10.) What is your speciality/favorites l area to work on? The sacroiliac joint is my favourite joint and favourite muscle, pretty similar really but glutes Id have to say. So many layers of various tissue, different actions and so much potential for strength !! Thanks @obyrnemyotherapy for starting this, youre an absolute gem @peterbabbage_obbt Your turn now mate

22.01.2022 http:// // Quick video today, just wanted to fly through a muscle test I do most days in the clinic. Its definitely one of my faves as I can check muscular development, strength of contraction, resting muscular tension and muscle pattern sequencing all in one !! _________________________________ So, to explain what Im specifically doing here. Its a little hard to see in the video but Ive got a finger on Peters glute, hamstring and a finger on each of his lowe...r back muscles. As he lifts his legs there is a specific order that would be considered anatomical optimal in which these muscles should contract. The body is pretty clever and typically it sequences biggest muscles do the most work and that principal is no different here. The order of contraction from first to last should be (L) glute, (L) hamstring, (R) lumbar paraspinal, (L) lumbar paraspinal. In Peters case his hamstring consistently activated before his glutes. This is technically a dysfunction of the hip musculature as the hamstring is doing more of the job of the glute and the glute itself is being lazy. Without going into crazy detail and turning this into a 15 page masterpiece in my opinion this is one of the most common causes for low back pain. _________________________________ So if youre someone who suffers from low or mid back pain or reoccuring knee problems give this test a go with a friend or partner and see how you fare. (You may need to repeat the test a few times as the time between contractions can be very short depending on the client). _________________________________ #AdelaideMyotherapy #Myotherapy #SAIT #SAIntegratedTherapies #LivingChoice #ManualTherapy #Adelaide #DryNeedling #TriggerPoint #Remedial See more

21.01.2022 COVID - 19 UPDATE // Just a quick update on how Im managing to continue to work whilst also safely dealing with the COVID-19 virus ____________________________________ Despite regularly practicing a high level of hygiene I have recently stepped things up for the benefit of both myself and my clients ... The additional changes I have made are as follows: (some points are clinic specific for various reasons) Anytime I am in the vicinity of my client or treatment room I am wearing with my N95 respirator Wearing disposable, single use gloves to treat Easily accessible hand sanitizer for both myself and my clients Treatment table is covered in easy to clean plastic sheeting Treatment table is also covered in disposable, single use gauze style sheeting Alcohol wiping all common use surfaces and anything that has specifically been touched by myself or my client during the treatment Completing the Government mandated COVID-19 e-learning course ____________________________________ At this time Id just like to reiterate what the State Government and professional associations are telling us to be wary of: If youre showing any flue like symptoms Been in contact with anyone who has traveled overseas lately Been in contact with anyone who is showing symptoms If any of these are you or youre experiencing any of this cancel or reschedule your appointment (which is no worries at all - your and my own health is the most important thing in this situation). This is the time for #selfisolation so we can protect those who cannot protect themselves and speed up the worlds recovery from this unprecedented mess. ____________________________________ I am closely watching the State Government and relevant professional associations for information on the situation so myself and my clients can make an informed (and legal) choice on what best suits them. As it stands to the best of my knowledge I am allowed to continue working and intend to do so for the benefit of my clients and to try and save my business !! Thank you so much to the enthusiasm and loyalty shown by many of my clients so far, it wont go unnoticed and unappreciated I assure you !!

20.01.2022 http:// Attention all tradie Dad's out there // Have you been through all the local Physio's, Chiro's, Osteo's etc and still dealing with that niggling pain that just won't go away? _________________________________ Maybe a completely different type of therapy is what you need _________________________________... I know the general attitude on the work site is typically to just "get on with it" but I'm here to tell you there is another way. It doesn't *have* to be like that if you don't want it to be (and let's be honest, whose out there begging for more chronic pain?...no one, certainly not your local tradie that's for sure !) _________________________________ Myself and my colleague @peterbabbage_obbt from @saitherapies are running a special in the lead up to Father's day (6 Sep) for all the tradies out there who need some good, solid treatment who are yet to find that perfect therapist to suit there needs. _________________________________ We're offering an initial consult at a price even cheaper than our typical repeat consult price of $80. That's a saving of $40 or roughly 33% off. So if any of you tradie Dad's, Dads-to-be or partners of said tradie who wants to get Dad something a little more special than the typical jocks and socks just inbox myself or Peter and we'll sort you out an appointment. #bowentherapy #bowentherapist #selfcare #wellbeing #fathersday #fathers #bodywork #bodyalignment #backpain #myotherapy #dryneedling #tradie See more

19.01.2022 http:// NEW TECHNIQUE // Earlier this year in February I was fortunate enough to complete a course with the esteemed Dr Paul Conneely and a couple of his brilliant associates Phil and Shane _____________________________________ In this video were being shown periosteal pecking - an advanced form of Musculoskeletal Dry Needling (although this video is being explained in a acupuncture context but the concept is the same). The periosteal bit refers to the bone specifi...cally and the pecking bit is a technique we frequently use in clinic when trying to elicit the involuntary twitch response. This twitch response is a positive thing and often involved in resolving trigger points on a more long term/permanent basis. The pecking specifically is the removal and insertion of the needle repeatedly all the way in until it taps the bone (the needle NEVER leaves the tissue fully though as that is bad needle practice to do so). _____________________________________ Despite there being minimal medical journals/studies looking into the effectiveness of periosteal pecking over traditional myofascial dry needling (MDN) what I was able to conclude from my research was that in certain circumstances there did seem to be evidence that periosteal pecking can be more effective at reducing musculoskeletal pain than run-of-the-mill MDN. _____________________________________ #adelaidemyotherapy #myotherapy #SAIT #SAIntegratedTherapies #LivingChoiceRetirementVillage #manualtherapy #adelaide #dryneedling #triggerpoint #remedial #dryneedling # #periostealpecking See more

18.01.2022 http:// ASSESSMENT // One of the big things that makes myself as a Myotherapist different to a Physiotherapist or Remedial Massage Therapist is my style of assessment. _________________________________ Depending on the presenting issue I will typically run the Client through a full standing, seated, prone (on stomach) and supine (laying on your back) postural assessment followed by specific joint ROM (Range of Motion) testing, nerve testing and relevant muscle ROM testing a...mongst a few other sneaky tricks Ive picked up along the way. This will generally equate to on a average 20-30 different individual measurements or observations to be recorded. _________________________________ At times Clients will want to just hop straight on the table to receive treatment immediately but I heard a good saying a while back that I kinda live by in the treatment room - "If youre not assessing youre just guessing". And its so true, I could oh so easily just rub where it hurts, itd be a heck of a lot easier for me but very very rarely does that actually fix the problem. In fact more times than not it does nothing or at best maybe will provide temporary relief...until you go back to doing the activity that caused it in the first place where you will soon come to find out that resting or rubbing the painful area didnt actually do anything substantial. _________________________________ If you have a nagging injury, feel like youve been misdiagnosed or just want to deal with someone who actually cares about your issue and the best way to fix it just message me and well take it from there See more

16.01.2022 http:// WORK/LIFE BALANCE // Here's a little gallery of what I've been up to this week despite the weather's best efforts to prevent it _____________________________________ Purchased myself a new bike (thanks to all you lovely Clients ) and despite yesterday arvo being 6C and raining I thought I'd waited long enough and had to get out and test this baby _____________________________________... Bike riding whether it be at the gym, road, track or trail has always been a big part of my life....I'm fairly terrible at it but I've at least done my fair share of KM's so it's not from lack of trying I find once you get your heart rate above a certain point keeping hold of your daily stressors gets surprisingly difficult so getting the bike out and going for a ride at times can be a nice relaxing experience...or you end up pulling over and vomiting at the top of the hill, you decide how much pain you want for the day _____________________________________ If you're local to Adelaide and know of some good trails or wanna come exploring hit me up, I'm sure we can find something enjoyable, after all, Adelaide does have a huge trail network only a handful of KM from the CBD @ Eagle Mountain Bike Park See more

01.01.2022 Shoutout to one of the biggest sources of inspiration and motivation in my life !! This photo is probably my favourite one ever as it was taken at the first round of the year of the S.A. State Titles. This was one of the biggest events for us for the year and both myself, Dad (+ Mum) spent a lot of time, money and sacrificed so much to participate. Unfortunately the day ended with me in an ambulance but this series was among the best times Ive shared with my legend of a Dad over the years
