Candidacy Statement: My name is Matthew Wrigley, I'm a 3rd year Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Paramedicine student at the Ballarat campus. Education and empowering the individual is at the heart of Australian Catholic University’s beliefs. I believe academic policies and programs are essential factors in promoting ACU’s mission by allowing for the promotion of student integrity with focuses in the individual student’s needs. In 2020, I was appointed treasurer of the Aquinas Student Association Ballarat, after being a member of the general committee in 2019. This role has expanded my leadership qualities, allowing me to gain confidence in organisation, collaboration and advocating student wishes and concerns. Organisation of events, attending orientation weeks and engaging with students are just some of the various experiences I have had during my time on the committee. I have also been a peer support leader for the past 2 years, assisting new students’ transition into ACU with support and sense of belonging. As a member of Aquinas Young Vinnies, I have assisted at camps run for vulnerable children and have been given the opportunity to interact and assist a diverse group of people from a variety of backgrounds. My various committee/volunteer roles have given me an opportunity to develop my understanding of ACU policies and procedures as well as allowing me to engage with students from a variety of degrees and backgrounds. I would love the opportunity to sit as a Student Member of the Academic board and thank you for your time and consideration for voting.
